Wise County Historical Society [VA]

The Wise County Historical Society is dedicated to preserving the history and genealogy of Southwestern Virginia and the Appalachian Mountains. The society maintains an archive in the Wise County Courthouse. The archive is home to the National Melungeon Registry, which is the only organization in the nation dedicated to the genealogy of the Melungeon people, as well as the Southern Appalachian Ancestral Registry and the Appalachian Quarterly, the society's quarterly newsletter.

The site offers general information about the Melungeon Registry, the Southern Appalachian Ancestral Registry, and the Appalachian Quarterly. In addition, the site offers present and past issues of the Appalachian Quarterly for download.
