Alabama's Kindergarten Standards

  • AL.1. Standard: Self and Family In kindergarten, students view changes that occur in their lives, in the history of the school, and in the community with a perspective that provides a foundation for them to begin to understand events in the past, present, and future.
    • 1.1. Objective: History Use daily schedules and timelines from birth to present to relate self and family to changes over time.
      • 1.1.1. Grade Level Example: Using vocabulary to describe periods of time.
    • 1.2. Objective: Economics/History Compare families of today with families of the past in relation to work, home, and school.
    • 1.3. Objective: History Identify historically significant events as they relate to self and family.
      • 1.3.1. Grade Level Example: Identifying famous individuals associated with holidays and celebrations.
      • 1.3.2. Grade Level Example: Describing personal and family experiences related to holidays and celebrations.
    • 1.4. Objective: Economics/Political Science Identify personal use of goods and services.
      • 1.4.1. Grade Level Example: Demonstrating ways money is used in everyday life.
      • 1.4.2. Grade Level Example: Identifying various community helpers and their roles in the community.
    • 1.5. Objective: Economics Identify personal wants and needs.
      • 1.5.1. Grade Level Example: Discussing differences between purchasing and bartering for materials.
      • 1.5.2. Grade Level Example: Discussing reasons for making choices.
    • 1.6. Objective: Geography Identify vocabulary related to location and direction.
      • 1.6.1. Grade Level Example: Locating objects and places to the right or left, up or down, in or out, and above or below.
      • 1.6.2. Grade Level Example: Giving directions.
      • 1.6.3. Grade Level Example: Following directions.
    • 1.7. Objective: Geography Identify representations of Earth using technology, maps, and globes.
      • 1.7.1. Grade Level Example: Creating simple maps (home, classroom, school).
    • 1.8. Objective: Economics/Geography Describe the effects of different seasons on self and family.
      • 1.8.1. Grade Level Example: Discussing economic factors affected by seasonal changes.
    • 1.9. Objective: Geography/History Describe ways people celebrate their diverse cultural heritages.
    • 1.10. Objective: Political Science Discuss the rights and responsibilities of individuals in relation to different social groups, including family, peer group, and classmates.
      • 1.10.1. Grade Level Example: Explaining the importance of manners and social etiquette.
      • 1.10.2. Grade Level Example: Explaining the necessity for rules and laws and the consequences of failing to obey them.
    • 1.11. Objective: History/Political Science Identify historic symbols of patriotism.
