  • AL.1. Standard: Self and Family

    In kindergarten, students view changes that occur in their lives, in the history of the school, and in the community with a perspective that provides a foundation for them to begin to understand events in the past, present, and future.
    • 1.1. Objective: History

      Use daily schedules and timelines from birth to present to relate self and family to changes over time.
      • 1.1.1. Grade Level Example:
        Using vocabulary to describe periods of time.
    • 1.2. Objective: Economics/History

      Compare families of today with families of the past in relation to work, home, and school.
    • 1.3. Objective: History

      Identify historically significant events as they relate to self and family.
      • 1.3.1. Grade Level Example:
        Identifying famous individuals associated with holidays and celebrations.
      • 1.3.2. Grade Level Example:
        Describing personal and family experiences related to holidays and celebrations.
    • 1.4. Objective: Economics/Political Science

      Identify personal use of goods and services.

        Demonstrating ways money is used in everyday life.

        Identifying various community helpers and their roles in the community.

      Identify personal wants and needs.

      Describe the effects of different seasons on self and family.

        Discussing economic factors affected by seasonal changes.

      Describe ways people celebrate their diverse cultural heritages.
    • 1.10. Objective: Political Science

      Discuss the rights and responsibilities of individuals in relation to different social groups, including family, peer group, and classmates.

        Explaining the importance of manners and social etiquette.
      • 1.10.2. Grade Level Example:
        Explaining the necessity for rules and laws and the consequences of failing to obey them.
