Alabama's Second Grade Standards

  • AL.1. Standard: Exploring Our Nation and World

    People and Places: Second grade sets the stage for students to acquire positive, lifelong dispositions toward learning and school. Students are involved in meaningful, active learning that includes hearing relevant literature, working in cooperative groups, and participating in related art activities.

    • 1.1. Objective: History

      Compare features of modern-day living to those of the past.
      • 1.1.1. Grade Level Example:
        Using vocabulary to describe segments of time.

    • 1.2. Objective: History

      Identify past and present contributions of a variety of individuals who have overcome difficulties or obstacles to achieve goals.

    • 1.3. Objective: History

      Discuss historical and current events within the state and the nation that are recorded in a variety of resources.

    • 1.4. Objective: History

      Discuss celebrations in the United States and around the world.

    • 1.5. Objective: Economics

      Explain the relationship between the production and distribution processes.
      • 1.5.1. Grade Level Example:
        Discussing the impact of consumer choices and decisions.
      • 1.5.2. Grade Level Example:
        Making informed decisions about borrowing and saving.

    • 1.6. Objective: Economics/Geography

      Identify human-made and natural resources in our world.

    • 1.7. Objective: Geography

      Describe ways people throughout the world are affected by their geographic environments.

      Describe rights and responsibilities of citizens of the United States.

    • 1.10. Objective: Political Science

      Discuss ways in which people in authority gain the right to direct or control others.
      • 1.10.1. Grade Level Example:
        Describing the appropriate use as well as the misuse of power and authority.

    • 1.11. Objective: Geography/History

      Explain how the diversity of people and customs in the United States and the world affect viewpoints and ideas.
      • 1.11.1. Grade Level Example:
        Discussing how and why people from various cultures immigrated to the United States.
