Lincoln Bicentennial
Media presentations and events are underway for the 200th anniversary of Lincoln’s birth, February 12, 2009.
The Lincoln Bicentennial Commission website serves as a clearinghouse for historical references and web and other resources, and for commemorative activities throughout the country. Materials for Teachers include Lesson Plans and reading lists with appropriate grade level designations, K-12. Educators are invited to submit their own lesson plans with statements explaining why their approaches were effective. Free Lincoln posters are available to educators.
C-Span programming is integral to the Bicentennial Celebration. The network has scheduled “Lincoln: 200 Years” programming, including discussions with scholars and coverage of Centennial Commission events. C-Span includes transcripts of major speeches and documents, images, videos of reenactments of the Lincoln-Douglas debates, and other primary source and analytical materials covering Lincoln’s life, work, and death.
