News from the Bill of Rights Institute: For Educators and High School Students
In January, the Bill of Rights Institute will publish a new teacher resource, Property Rights in America: Yours, Mine, or Ours? This 40-page book offers a week of lesson plans analyzing the importance of property rights in a free society through evaluating the importance of private property; examining the Fifth Amendment protection of private property; looking at seminal U.S. Supreme Court cases involving property rights; and exploring contemporary challenges to property rights from YouTube, the Harry Potter lLexicon copyright case, and web issues.

Constitutional Academy
Rising high school juniors and seniors might be interested in applying to the Constitutional Academy, a week-long college-level residential program in Washington, DC. Each week, 60 students meet in discussion groups with politicians and professors, work behind the scenes at the National Archives, and explore the nation’s capital through a focus on the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights. Tuition, which includes instruction, housing, food, and instructional materials, is $1,495 for the week and financial aid is available. The program offers three college credits.
