The Washington County Historical Society seeks to preserve and share the history of Washington County, MD. To this end, the society operates a museum within the Miller House, a late Federal townhouse dating to between 1818 and 1823, and the 1904 two-room Beaver Creek School. Exhibits in the Miller House include period rooms set to 1850s through 1870s appearances, clocks, dolls, Shenandoah Valley pottery, the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Civil War, and the C and O Canal. The house grounds also include a library and gardens. The Beaver Creek School contains period school, workshop, parlor, and cobbler shop settings; vintage toys; costumes and uniforms; an 1840s hand crank organ; and other artifacts.

The society offers exhibits, period rooms, a garden, and research library access.

The Meux House Museum is focused on preserving the beautiful Meux home, a premier architectural treasure of Fresno. The home was built in 1889 by Dr. Thomas Meux, formerly of Tennessee. The Meux family occupied the home until 1970, and now is open as a historic house museum.

The Robert Frost Farm was home to Robert Frost and his family from 1900–1911. Frost, one of the nation's most acclaimed poets whose writings are said to be the epitome of New England, attributed many of his poems to memories from the Derry years. The simple two-story white clapboard farmhouse is typical of New England in the 1880s.

The 1910 neoclassical Missoula County Courthouse contains murals by Edgar Samuel Paxson (1852-1919). These works depict Montana history. Paxson is best known for his 1899 painting of Custer's Last Stand.

The North Lake Tahoe Historical Society seeks to preserve and share the history of the Lake Tahoe area, California. To this end, the society operates the Gatekeeper's Museum, Marion Steinbach Indian Basket Museum, and 1909 Watson Cabin. The Gatekeeper's Museums functions as a museum of local history. Highlights include historic court ledgers and oral histories. The Marion Steinbach Indian Basket Museum presents baskets, costumes, dolls, pottery and other artifacts from 85 Native American tribes. The Watson Cabin is a living history museum of local pioneer life.

The society offers exhibits, period rooms, and living history demonstrations. Please call ahead if severe weather is forecasted, as the museums may not be open.

The Old Firehouse Museum presents the history of South Hadley, Connecticut; local industries; and local firefighting between 1899 and 1973, the years in which the firehouse was in active use by the area fire department. Permanent exhibits include an 1890s period room and a firefighting display. Collection highlights include a 1926 Dodge Fire Engine and two 19th-century hand pumpers.

The 70-acre Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens is a historic house museum. The Tudor Revival manor was built in 1912; and reflects the architecture of Charles S. Schneider (1874-1932), interior design of Hugo F. Huber, and landscaping of Warren H. Manning (1860-1938). Manning favored naturalistic, as opposed to heavily stylized, garden design. The residence is intended to be visually complementary to its surrounding environment. Guests who visited the estate owners, the Sieberlings, included Shirley Temple (born 1928) and Will Rogers (1879-1935). Other structures on site include the Gate Lodge, site of a conversation among Henrietta Seiberling and two men suffering from alcoholism which would determine the guiding principles of Alcoholics Anonymous, as well as a reproduction of the original greenhouse. The Lodge contains an exhibit on the founding of Alcoholics Anonymous.

The estate offers an exhibit, period rooms, gardens, self-guided manor tours, guided manor tours, other guided tours, educational programs for students, traveling trunks, educational outreach presentations, teacher's workshops, a children's club, Scout programs, and collections access. Appointments are required for collections access. Two weeks advance notice is required for group tours. Boxed lunches can be provided with five days advance notice.

The 100-acre Grey Towers National Historic Landmark contains Grey Towers, summer home of Gifford Pinchot (1865-1946), Pennsylvania Governor and first Chief of the U.S. Forest Service. Pinchot is attributed the concepts of conservation and sustainable use. Gifford's wife Cornelia Bryce Pinchot (1881-1960) advocated women's right to vote, child labor reform, and the formation of trade unions. The structure itself was erected in 1886.

The site offers one-hour guided tours of the gardens and the residence's first floor, historic gardens, customizable field trips, environmental outreach programs for students, a 15-minute history interpretive trail, a hands-on forestry trail running less than one mile, a bluebird nestbox trail running 1/4 of a mile, conservation education programs, a trail describing types and uses of trees, and Smokey Bear and forest fire activity backpacks for use on site.

The Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania houses one of the most significant collections of historic railroad artifacts in the world. Devoted to preserving and interpreting the broad impact of railroad development on society, the Museum displays over 100 locomotives and cars from the mid-19th and 20th centuries, including the priceless Pennsylvania Railroad Historical Collection.

The museum offers exhibits, tours, train rides, educational programs, and occasional recreational and educational events (including living history events).

The Northwest Seaport is a maritime heritage center in Washington state. The seaport maintains several historic vessels, including the 1889 tugboat Arthur Foss, which was used in 1898 to transport miners to Alaska during the Klondike Gold Rush.

The center offers monthly chantey sings, preschool story times, monthly tugboat engineering workshops for participants 14 years of age or older, and self-guided and 45-minute group tours of the Arthur Foss. Group tours support no more than 12 participants. Please call ahead to arrange group tours and to ensure that the tugboat is open to the public on the day you plan to visit.
