In 1938, the Society assumed the management of the 1936 Hall of State at the request of the City of Dallas. The Hall of State is one of the finest examples of art deco architecture in the country and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a part of Fair Park.

The society offers tours, educational programs, lectures, research library access, and occasional recreational and educational events; the hall offers exhibits and tours.

The Society maintains three historical properties, including the Beall-Dawson House, the Stonestreet Museum of 19th-century Medicine, and the Waters House History Center. Visitors can learn about the county's beginnings at the historic 1815 Beall-Dawson House, an elegant federal style townhome that features period rooms and changing exhibits. The museum tour highlights the culture and daily life of both the upper-class Beall family as well as the enslaved African Americans who labored in the house and on the adjacent property. The Stonestreet Museum offers an insider's look into the developments in medical science that occurred during the career of Dr. Edward E. Stonestreet. Built in 1852, this unique one-room Gothic Revival doctor's office features medical artifacts and implements that demonstrate the fascinating changes that occurred in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The Waters House History Center is housed in oldest house in Germantown—built in three parts, the oldest dates to the mid-1790s. It offers exhibits related to local history.

The Society offers educational programs and lectures; the Beall-Dawson House offers exhibits, tours, and occasional educational and recreation events and programs; the Stonestreet Museum offers exhibits and tours; the Center offers exhibits and occasional recreational and educational programs.

The Hammond-Harwood House was built in 1774 for the 25-year-old tobacco planter Matthias Hammond of Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Collecting since 1938, the museum now housed in it has long been the home of some of the finest decorative and fine arts the state of Maryland has had to offer. Today, the museum houses one of the largest collections of paintings by Charles Willson Peale and furniture by John Shaw in the area.

The Museum is a tribute to Delaware's native son, Eldridge Reeves Johnson, who founded the Victor Talking Machine Company in 1901. Exhibits include phonographs, recordings, memorabilia, trademarks, objects, and paintings that highlight Mr. Johnson's successful business enterprises and chronicle the development of the sound-recording industry.

The Museum brings to life the 3,000-year history of farming and ranching in New Mexico. The main building contains more than 24,000-square-feet of exhibit space, along with catering space for meetings and events, a mercantile, and theater. Visitors can watch a cow being milked, stroll along corrals filled with livestock, enjoy several gardens, or watch one of a growing number of demonstrations.

The Folsom Powerhouse is an example of the tremendous advance in the commercial application of electricity. H.P. Livermore realized that the water of the American River could turn generators for electricity in Sacramento, 22 miles downstream. With his partners, Livermore built the powerhouse, which still looks much as it did in 1895. Vintage generators are still in place at the powerhouse, as is the control switchboard, faced with Tennessee marble. Visitors touring the powerhouse can see the massive General Electric transformers, each capable of conducting from 800 to 11,000 volts of electricity, in addition to the forebays and canal system that brought the water from the dam.

The Newseum—a 250,000-square-foot museum of news—offers visitors an experience that blends five centuries of news history with up-to-the-second technology and hands-on exhibits. The Newseum features seven levels of galleries, theaters, retail spaces, and visitor services. It offers a unique environment that takes museum-goers behind the scenes to experience how and why news is made.

The museum offers exhibits, tours, film and multimedia screenings, classes, lectures, and other educational and recreational events and programs. DC Metro area schools can schedule field trips with free admission for students; both box lunches and lunch vouchers are available with payment. Students may attend one 50-min., standards-aligned, educator-led class for free during their field trip (see the list of available classes, for grade levels 3-12); and educator-led tours are available for an additional charge.

To prepare for a field trip, teachers may attend an orientation session. Groups may also schedule professional development sessions for educators—subjects relevant to U.S. history include "The Battle for the Bill of Rights: The Free Press and the Founding of Our Nation," "The Photographic Revolution: The Ethics and Impact of Seeing the Story, From the Civil War to the Slums of New York to Today," "A Global Nation: The Free Flow of Information and Media Ethics," and "Making a Change: Civil Rights and the First Amendment."

The Bellport-Brookhaven Historical Society is devoted to the preservation and interpretation of Long Island's past—in particular, the history of the Bellport-Brookhaven-East-Patchogue area. The Society pursues this goal through its Museum Complex, its museum collections and gallery exhibitions, its educational programs, its outreach to the community, and its publication of studies on local history and material culture. The Museum Complex includes the 1833 Post-Crowell House, the 19th-century Ralph Brown Building, a blacksmith shop, the Barn Museum, the John Chester Memorial Boathouse, and an 1850 gazebo.

The society offers research library access and occasional recreational and educational events; the Museum Complex provides exhibits and tours.

Visitors to Sauder Village experience history up close as costumed staff lead activities and demonstrations of daily rural life in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Depending on the day and season, visitors may encounter hymn singing, demonstrations of old printing techniques, samples of a 19th-century recipe, or a chance to taste a homemade pickle or help with food preparation. The craft buildings and studios are home to several nationally-recognized craftsmen working with traditional crafts in both historic and modern interpretations. The village also includes a 350-seat restaurant; a bakery; a campground; a 98-room country inn; and an exhibit/performance center, Founder's Hall.

Sauder Village offers historical reenactments, exhibits, tours, educational programs, and other opportunities.

The Westwego Historical Museum is housed in the historic Fisherman's Exchange/L.J. Bernard Hardware Store Building on Sala Avenue in Salaville, Westwego's Historic District. While telling the unique story of the people of Westwego, the museum features a completely restored turn-of-the-century general store, furnished period upstairs living quarters, and a main exhibit area boasting thousands of artifacts and historical treasures.
