The Sussex County Historical Society was established in 1904, following the culmination of the county's 150th anniversary celebration. The Society brings together people interested in the prehistory, history, and native culture of Sussex County. The Society seeks out, collects, preserves, restores, and studies materials that reveal and illustrate the county's history. The Society encourages and supports policies and projects that enhance the appreciation and preservation of Sussex County's heritage. One of the society's achievements is the restoration and care of the Old Newton Burial Ground located across Main Street from the society headquarters, which are located at the Hill Memorial Building, along with the society museum and library. The Hill Memorial was listed on both the New Jersey and National Registers of Historic Places in 1985 as the oldest museum building in New Jersey.

The museum offers historical exhibits and special events highlighting the history of Sussex County. The museum also offers tours and programs for the general public and schoolchildren. The Museum tells the story of the people who came from Europe to work in the anthracite mining and textiles industries. The Wise County Historical Society is dedicated to preserving the history and genealogy of Southwestern Virginia and the Appalachian Mountains. The society maintains an archive in the Wise County Courthouse. The archive is home to the National Melungeon Registry, which is the only organization in the nation dedicated to the genealogy of the Melungeon people, as well as the Southern Appalachian Ancestral Registry and the Appalachian Quarterly, the society's quarterly newsletter.

"The Etowah Valley Historical Society, Inc. was founded in 1972 by concerned owners of historical properties in Bartow County. From a membership of 24, primarily interested in preserving the Etowah River Valley region of this county, the society has evolved into an organization of over 600 people dedicated to the promotion of historic education and preservation throughout Bartow County." Today, the society is focused on a variety of projects, from operating the Altoona Pass battlefield to helping interested citizens research their genealogy.

The Denton County African American Museum is dedicated towards preserving and presenting the history of African Americans in Denton County, Texas. The museum is open to the public and charges a $1 admissions fee. The museum also hosts a variety of special events including historical speakers.

SHPD's three branches, History and Culture, Archaeology, and Architecture, strive to accomplish this goal through a number of different activities." The archaeological Branch seeks to facilitate investigation of Hawaii's many archaeological resources, while the architectural division works to preserve and restore historic structures throughout the islands. The history and culture branch of SHPD focuses on research regarding the Hawaii's indigenous population.

Landis Valley Museum, a living history village and farm, collects, preserves, and interprets the history and material culture of the Pennsylvania German rural community from 1740 to 1940 and enhances understanding of their successful practices, interactions with others, and the impact on the state and nation for citizens of and visitors to the Commonwealth. Visitors experience 18th- and 19th-century village and farm life in Lancaster County, PA, all in one visit. With over 100 acres and many historic buildings to explore throughout the four seasons, there is always something to see at Landis Valley Museum.

Located in San Francisco Bay, the U.S. Immigration Station at Angel Island served as a processing and detainment center for hundreds of thousands of immigrants and emigrants between 1910 and 1940. The Angel Island Immigration Station Foundation (AIISF) was founded in 1983 with the mission of continuing the preservation and educational efforts regarding Angel Island. Currently, AIISF raises funds to restore, preserve, and interpret the Angel Island Immigration Station. AIISF has recently launched the Angel Island Legacies Project, which trains oral historians and conducts interviews of detainees and descendants of all nationalities.

The Society operates a local history museum, the Jerome County Historical Museum, as well as the Idaho Farm and Ranch Agricultural Museum. The latter displays many specimens of old farm equipment and original buildings from the surrounding area, including an exhibit from the World War II Minidoka Japanese Relocation Camp that was located at Hunt, ID in Jerome County.
