Founded in 1986 as part of the North Dakota Centennial Celebration in Minot, North Dakota, the Railroad Museum of Minot was organized with the goal of preserving the history of the railroads that crisscrossed North Dakota.

Clarence Darrow, William Jennings Bryan, and the Scopes Trial

Description

Professor Charles Postel reviews the lives of lawyers Clarence Darrow (1857–1938) and William Jennings Bryan (1860–1925) and their involvement as adversaries in the 1925 legal case Scopes v. State, in which a school teacher was found guilty of violating a Tennessee law prohibiting the teaching of evolution in public schools.

Union Covered Bridge State Historic Site [MO]

Description

The Union Covered Bridge State Historic Site is located several miles from the historic Mark Twain State Park. The covered bridge was built in 1871, and is one of only four covered bridges that represent the Burr-arch truss design. It served travelers in Monroe County for 99 years, and still stands today as a symbol of a bygone era.

The location simply consists of the bridge and a small plaque explaining the history of the bridge. Visitors to the website can view basic visitor information, along with links to other Missouri State Parks and Historic Sites.

Haldeman Mansion Preservation Society [PA]

Description

The mission of the Haldeman Mansion Preservation Society is to restore and preserve the Haldeman Mansion to the condition it would have appeared in 1812 when world renowned scientist and linguist Samuel Steman Haldeman was born here. The Haldeman Mansion, birthplace of Professor Samuel Stehman Haldeman was completed in 1812 by his grandparents, John and Maria Brenneman Haldeman.

The site offers biographical information about Samuel Haldeman, a calendar of events, press releases, and other general information about the society.

The mansion is currently under development.

Columbia CA Chamber of Commerce [CA]

Description

The Columbia CA Chamber of Commerce is dedicated towards preserving and aiding in the everyday operation of the Columbia State Historic Park, which is located in Columbia, California. Columbia was one of the first gold rush towns in California, and was founded in 1850 along a particularly large vein of gold, and so was very successful. Unlike many other gold rush towns, Columbia was never truly abandoned, and was incorporated into the California State Park system in 1945.

The site offers a history of Columbia, a listing of merchants and lodging in and around Columbia, and an events calendar.

Wildland Firefighter Museum [NM]

Description

The Wildland Firefighter Museum was first opened in 1999 in Capitan, New Mexico. The museum is most noteworthy for its location next to the State Smokey Bear Historical park, the "birthplace and burial site of the world-renowned Smokey Bear." The museum contains collections of antique firefighting tools and equipment as well as a large collection of Smokey Bear memorabilia. In addition, the museum seeks to educate the public on wildland fire prevention.

Huerfano County Historical Society and Museums [CO]

Description

The Huerfano County Historical Society is located in La Veta, CO, the center of the Spanish Peaks area of the Colorado Rockies. The society owns and operates two museums, the Walsenburg Mining Museum, which focuses on the history of mining in the Colorado Rockies, and the Francisco Fort Museum, which is a living history museum chronicling the history of early settlers and explorers in the Huerfano County region.

The site offers an events calendar and very basic information regarding the society and its museums.
