Toolesboro Indian Mounds [IA]

Description

The Hopewellian mounds at Toolesboro are among the best-preserved and accessible remnants of an ancient culture flourishing from around 200 B.C. to 300 A.D. The five-acre site includes several large surviving mounds, an education center, and a prairie demonstration plot.

Farnsworth House [IL]

Description

The Farnsworth House is one of the most significant architectural works of the 20th century. The home, built in 1951, was conceived as a country retreat for Dr. Edith Farnsworth in 1945. The structure "represents the ultimate refinement of [architect] Mies van der Rohe's minimalist expression," and is "perhaps the fullest expression of modernist ideals," according to the home's website. Today, the home stands as a historic house museum and monument to architectural excellence.

Description

The Marple Historical Society is dedicated to preserving the heritage of Marple Township, which is located outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Postville Courthouse

Description

Postville Courthouse is a reproduction of Logan County's first seat of government. Constructed in 1840, the original building until 1848 was one of the courts in which Abraham Lincoln argued cases while traveling the historic Eighth Judicial Circuit. The first floor has a reception and orientation room and an exhibit gallery. On the second floor are rooms representing an 1840s courtroom and a county office.

Zwaanendael Museum [DE]

Description

The Zwaanendael Museum works to preserve and present military, social, and maritime history in the Lewes area of Delaware. The Miami Design Preservation League seeks to preserve and share the history of Miami's architecture, both within and outside of the Miami Beach Architectural Historic District. Miami is perhaps most widely known for its Art Deco architecture. However, the historic district includes Art Deco, Mediterranean Revival, and Miami Modern (MiMo) structures.

Dyckman House Park [NY]

Description

The Dyckman House Park consists of a circa 1784 Dutch Colonial farmhouse, surrounded by a small park, in New York City. The site focuses on the years 1815 through 1820 and 1915 through 1916, referred to by the park as the "farm" and "city" periods of the property.
