The Rome Historical Society seeks to preserve and share the history of Oneida County and Rome, NY. To this end, the society operates a museum of local history which covers the Ice Age through present day. Permanent exhibits address Iroquois life, manufacturing, daily life, area canals, forts along the Carry, and the dairy industry.

The society offers exhibits, a multimedia presentation, guided group tours, educational kits, outreach speakers and slide presentations, and archive access. Reservations are required for guided tours. Appointments are recommended for archive use.

The Reitz Home Museum consists of the 1871 French Second Empire Victorian residence of John Augustus Reitz, a wealthy lumberman, and his family. The interior is decorated with original furnishings and period pieces.

The museum offers period rooms, guided tours, guided group tours, and guided group tours with dinner or lunch. All group tours are by appointment.

The Hageman House and Farm preserves the 1861 Italianate-Victorian home of two Dutch immigrant families. Although the home dates to 1861, the farm site was in use by these families as of 1756. The grounds also contain a reconstructed horse barn, which replicates the circa 1867 original.

Established in 1815 on the banks of the Black River, this important frontier town had Arkansas Territory's first post office, courthouse, and land office. When bypassed by the Southwest Trail from St. Louis to Mexico, the town began to fade, and was virtually unoccupied by the 1830s. Because there has since been little disturbance, archaeologists have recently uncovered the town three inches below ground. Finds include corners of buildings, streets, and a volume of artifacts, which are currently at the University of Arkansas being catalogued and preserved.

The Virginia Museum of Transportation presents the history of transportation within the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Automotive Gallery features historic automobiles from each decade of the 20th century.

Whitestone Hill Battlefield State Historic Site marks the scene of the fiercest clash between Indians and white soldiers in North Dakota. On September 3, 1863, General Alfred Sully's troops attacked a tipi camp of Yanktonai, some Dakota, Hunkpapa Lakota, and Blackfeet (Sihasapa Lakota), as part of a military mission to punish participants of the Dakota Conflict of 1862. In the ensuing battle, many Indian men, women, and children died or were captured. Military casualties were comparatively light. The Indians also suffered the destruction of virtually all of t heir property, leaving them nearly destitute for the coming winter. Today, Whitestone Battlefield State Historic Site includes a portion of the battlefield and a small museum with exhibits explaining the 1863 Sibley and Sully expeditions and the Battle of Whitestone Hill. There are two monuments, one honoring the Indian dead and a second commemorating the soldiers who died in the battle. A marker also recognizes two early settlers, Tom and Mary Shimmin.

The Columbia County Historical and Genealogical Society seeks to preserve and share the history of Columbia County, PA, and its people.

The society offers archive access and research services. A fee is charged for research conducted upon request.

The Artillery Company of Newport operates a military museum in its Armory. The Museum houses one of the country's most extensive collections of military uniforms and memorabilia, including uniforms worn by His Royal Highness Prince Phillip; Lord Louis Mountbatten; Field Marshal Sir Bernard Montgomery of Alamein; President Anwar Sadat of Egypt; Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz; Generals of the Army Dwight Eisenhower and Mark Clark; Generals William Westmoreland, Creighton Abrams, and Alexander Haig; and Secretary of State Colin Powell, as well as other American commanders. The Museum collection also includes four bronze cannon cast by Paul Revere in 1798 for the State of Rhode Island, three Civil War artillery pieces, a letter written to the men of the Artillery Company in 1794 by George Washington, and a Gilbert Stuart portrait of Washington, as well as numerous artifacts of particular significance to the history of the State of Rhode Island and the Artillery Company of Newport.

The Fort Walla Walla Museum chronicles the early history of the town of Walla Walla, WA, and the Fort Walla Walla military site. The museum is comprised of four exhibit halls and 17 pioneer buildings. The museum also maintains the original military cemetery adjacent to the park's entrance.

The Audubon State Historic Site is located in St. Francisville, LA, and is the site where noted artist John Audubon stayed for four months while teaching art to Eliza Pirrie. The Pirries lived in the Oakley House, which is a fabulous example of colonial architecture in the deep south. The Oakley House is listed on the national register of historic places.
