This antebellum mansion was home to Major Robert Gamble and headquarters of an extensive sugar plantation. It is the only surviving plantation house in South Florida. It is believed that Confederate Secretary of State, Judah P. Benjamin, took refuge here after the fall of the Confederacy, until his safe passage to England could be secured. Today, the mansion is furnished in the style of a successful mid-19th-century plantation.

Visitors to this archaeological site will see Florida's tallest Native American ceremonial mound—46 feet—built between 1100 and 1800 years ago. The people who built the mound are believed to have been members of the Weedon Island Culture, a group of Native Americans who lived in North Florida between 200 and 800 A.D.

Located near the mouth of the St. Johns River, this site was an important military position during the Civil War, allowing access to the inland areas of Florida's east coast. There was never an actual fort on Yellow Bluff, but an encampment that was fortified and equipped with large guns for protection. Constructed in 1862, the site was occupied by both Confederate and Union troops during the Civil War and—at its peak—housed over 250 soldiers. The site has a T-shaped earthworks and covers about 1.3 acres.

The Ponce de Leon Inlet Light Station, built in 1887, is the second tallest masonry lighthouse in the United States and the tallest lighthouse of any kind in Florida. The lighthouse keepers' dwellings and other historic light station buildings now house the lighthouse museum, which features exhibits on lighthouse life, Daytona Beach and Florida history, lighthouse and Fresnel lens restoration, shipwrecks, and the lighthouse keepers and their families. The Ayres Davies Lens Exhibit Building houses one of the largest collections of restored Fresnel lenses in the world, including the rotating first order Fresnel lens from the Cape Canaveral lighthouse and the restored original Ponce Inlet lighthouse first order Fresnel lens. The boat yard houses a local historic charter boat, the Gay Wind.

The association offers a 20–minute introductory film, guided tours, self–guided tours, museum exhibits, educational programming, and a picnic site. Local schools can make use of traveling trunks, in-classroom outreach presentations and activities, and/or a traveling exhibit. Reservations are required for group tours, and Volusia County Public School and home school group tours are free of charge. The introductory film can be rented by local teachers for pre-visit preparation. The Historical Society of Palm Beach County promotes local history, in part through support of the Richard and Pat Johnson Palm Beach County Museum. Located in a historic 1916 courthouse, the museum presents artifacts that once belonged to Pre-Columbian inhabitants; Seminole Indians; early pioneers; the business and philanthropic community; educators; and influential leaders in communications, medicine, and politics.

The American Police Hall of Fame and Museum, founded in 1960, is the nation's first national police museum and memorial dedicated to law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. Through interactive displays, simulators, and artifacts displays, the Museum educates the public about the history and current trends of American law enforcement. The Museum also features a state-of-the-art 24-lane indoor gun range and helicopter rides.

The Fort Lauderdale Fire and Safety Museum is located in Fire Station 3 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The museum is currently under construction, but is open to the public on Saturdays, and chronicles the history of the Fort Lauderdale Fire Department while working to educate the public and schoolchildren in basic fire safety.

When completed, the museum will have exhibits focusing on both fire safety and the history of the fire department, and will offer tours and field trip programs. The Jacksonville Historical Society preserves the history of Jacksonville, Florida, and operates the 1886 Queen Anne-style Merrill House, which today serves as a historic house museum.

The society offers periodic guided tours of Jacksonville as well as a bookstore and a collection of photographs. The Merrill House is open year-round for tours and can accommodate groups by appointment. The website offers visitor information and histories of Jacksonville, the Merrill House, and the society, as well as special features which highlight particular aspects of Jacksonville's history.

During the 1840s, tensions between the settlers and Seminole Indians prompted authorities to establish a trading post in Florida's interior, away from settlements. Built in early 1849, the post was attacked and destroyed by renegade Indians that summer. In late 1849 Fort Chokonikla was built nearby as the first outpost in a chain of forts established to control the Seminoles. The Seminoles never attacked the fort, but the Army was nearly defeated by mosquitoes. A museum at the visitor center depicts the lives of Florida's Seminole Indians and pioneers during the 19th century.
