Located near the mouth of the St. Johns River, this site was an important military position during the Civil War, allowing access to the inland areas of Florida's east coast. There was never an actual fort on Yellow Bluff, but an encampment that was fortified and equipped with large guns for protection. Constructed in 1862, the site was occupied by both Confederate and Union troops during the Civil War and—at its peak—housed over 250 soldiers. The site has a T-shaped earthworks and covers about 1.3 acres.

The Sherman Historical Society seeks to preserve and share the history of Sherman, Connecticut, founded in 1802. To this end, the society operates two museums. The 1829 Federal-style Northrop House presents exhibits of local historical interest, while the circa 1810 Old Store presents both local history and the contents of a general store circa 1867.

The James A. Garfield National Historic Site consists of Lawnfield, a historic home which James A. Garfield (1831-1881), 20th President of the United States, purchased in 1876, and an 1893 carriage house. The site presents Garfield's boyhood, education, military career, political career, and assassination. Garfield's presidential term (1881) lasted only six months, and was largely marred with political feuding over federal appointments.

The site offers an 18-minute video, exhibits, period rooms, 35-minute guided house tours, weekly children's tours, and monthly tours which cover generally inaccessible portions of the grounds. Reservations are required for the "behind the scenes" tours and for group tours. Picnics are permitted on the grounds.

At the Fort location the visitor will find an interpretive center with exhibits, videos, and self-guided tours of the fort and outlying sites. The fort tour leads the visitor through the site to building locations, archaeological remains, and interpretive signs pinpointing the surrounding historic landmarks. A Civilian Conservation Corp Cabin has been refurbished to depict the quarters of an Officer's wife and a Non-Commissioned Officer's Quarters. The two satellite sites of Fort Phil Kearny are the Fetterman Fight and the Wagon Box Fight battlefields. Maps to the sites and interpretation are available at the Visitor Center. At both battlefields, the visitor will find an interpretive trail which leads through the battle providing both Indian and White perspectives of the conflict. The visitor can go to the actual locations of the skirmish lines and Indian charges and see the weapons and personnel involved.

The Mariner's Museum presents information and artifacts relevant to the field of maritime history. Highlights include more than 150 small vessels from over 36 countries; August F. Crabtree's miniature ships; displays on shipbuilding, cartographic, and navigational advancements between 1400 and 1700; the largest international maritime library in the western hemisphere; and the USS Monitor Center. The center includes a full-scale replica of the Monitor, the first U.S. Navy ironclad warship, used in the Civil War. The museum also owns and maintains a 550-acre park.

The museum offers exhibits, maritime science and history educational programs which complement state educational standards, scavenger hunts, distance learning programs, outreach speakers, lectures, research library access, research assistance, paddle boat rental, and fishing boat rental. Payment is required for research assistance. The website offers virtual exhibits, artifact of the month, and images for educational use.

The Watertown Historical Society seeks to preserve and share knowledge of Watertown, Wisconsin's history. The society operates the Octagon House, one of the largest single family pre-Civil War residences in Wisconsin. Completed in 1854 by John Richards—a lawyer, mill owner, and early Watertown settler—the house now contains period rooms for public display.

Victoria Mansion, also known as the Morse-Libby House, is widely regarded as the greatest Italian villa style residence in America. It was designed by New Haven architect Henry Austin and constructed between 1858 and 1860. Gustave Herter, one of the United States' first professional interior designers, coordinated the plasterwork, furniture, lighting fixtures, and fabrics within the building. His firm designed and manufactured all the furniture used—with influences from the Italian Renaissance to French Neoclassicism. Other highlights include decorative painting by Giuseppe Guidicini; gasoliers; the first documented smoking room in a U.S. private residence; and an extensive collection of stained glass.

The mansion offers tours; interactive programs, which meet the requirements of the Maine Learning Results, for school groups; a teacher preparation packet with worksheets, slides, and readings; and special events, including lectures.

The UDC Confederate Memorial Museum houses historic items from throughout Colorado County, including ladies' mourning jewelry, rare china, military uniforms, and a three-barrel shotgun. The collection is located within Columbus, Texas' historic water tower, built 1883. The structure has also served as a fire house.

Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park is a three-story, 26-room Victorian house museum that stands as a memorial to John and Annie Bidwell. John Bidwell was known throughout California and across the nation as an important pioneer, farmer, soldier, statesman, politician, and philanthropist. Annie Ellicott Kennedy Bidwell, the daughter of a socially prominent, high-ranking Washington official, was deeply religious, and committed to a number of moral and social causes. Annie was very active in the suffrage and prohibition movements.

The Fulkerson Mansion and Farm Museum presents the cattle farm—Hazy Dell—and Southern-style Victorian mansion which became the home of Lt. Colonel William H. Fulkerson after his stint with the Confederate Army. Hazel Dell is virtually unchanged today; and the Farm Museum contains many rare agricultural items and equipment with emphasis on farm steam traction engines—utilized for plowing the prairie, threshing grain, and for powering early sawmills. The museum features Reeves steam engines and plows, while the 1866 mansion is furnished with antiques and artifacts of the period, with a special display of the Fulkerson's personal Civil War items, Lafayette Baker's Civil War artifacts, and the Thomas Lincoln Anvil. The building is in an Italianate style—with a low pitched roof and tall, narrow windows—popular between the 1850s and 1880s.
