Benicia Capitol State Historic Park is the site of California's third seat of government (1853–54). It is the only pre-Sacramento capitol that survives. The original building has been restored with reconstructed period furnishings and exhibits. The interior includes a board-for-board reconstruction of the building's original floor with ponderosa pine. The desks, three of which are originals from the Benicia period or earlier, are furnished with a candlestick, a 19th-century newspaper, a quill pen, and a top hat.

The Eiteljorg Museum of the American Indians and Western Art presents Western-themed works of art and cultural information on Native Americans nation-wide. The museum collections are particularly strong in Plains and Southwest Native American artifacts. Displays emphasize Native American cultural diversity. Artworks include Modernist pieces, contemporary works in traditional manners, and the works of the Taos Society of Artists (1915-1927).

The museum offers museum and thematic guided tours, optional field trip studio activities led by artists-in-residence, hands-on cart programs, an interactive children's exhibit area, library access, 10 educational programs, and sack lunches. The Ohio County Historical Society seeks to preserve and share the history of Ohio County, Indiana. To this end, the society operates a museum, housed in a 19th-century plow factory. This museum focuses on local life in the 1800s and early 1900s. Collection highlights include a record-winning, early 20th-century race boat called the Hoosier Boy and an auto-harp.

The Old Croton Aqueduct State Historic Park contains the Old Croton Aqueduct, built between 1837 and 1842 to provide New York City with fresh water for firefighting and disease prevention. The 41-mile aqueduct remained in use until 1965.

The Captain Forbes House Museum presents the living quarters of Captain Robert Bennet Forbes (1804-1889), one of the major players in increasing U.S. maritime trade with China circa 1830. In addition to his status as merchant and ship owner, Forbes was also involved in philanthropy, art, and design. The structure itself dates to 1833 and is in the Greek Revival style. Collections include Chinese silver, paintings, furniture, porcelain, and bronzes (which possess deeply embedded cultural significance within China).

The Sibley House Historic Site consists of four historical limestone structures, dating to 1825 through 1853 when Mendota, Minnesota was an important player in the U.S. fur trade with the Dakota people. Begun in 1838, the home of Henry Hastings Sibley is the best known of the four. Sibley served as regional manager of the American Fur Company and the first Minnesota governor. Structures accessible to the public include the 1840 home of Jean-Baptiste Faribault, trader and hotelier, and an 1843 fur company cold store.

Completed in 1825, Fort Snelling was originally built to prevent non-U.S. citizens from making use of the Mississippi and Minnesota Rivers. After 1851, the fort served as a supply depot, training center for Union troops, and the headquarters of the Army Department of Dakota.

The fort offers a hands-on educational program; living history tours; day camps based on the pioneer stories of Laura Ingalls Wilder; blacksmithing, bread baking, tea, and hearth baking classes; outreach presentations given by costumed interpreters; lectures; and a picnic area. The "Cultural Crossroads on the Arkansas," El Pueblo History Museum has always been a gathering place for diverse people and cultures. The site includes an 1840s-style adobe trading post and plaza, as well as the archaeological excavation for the original 1842 El Pueblo trading post. The museum building showcases the city's history and the various cultural and ethnic groups in Pueblo and the region. The site also features the Frontier Pathways Scenic and Historic Byways Information Center.

The Cherry Hill Farmhouse and Barn is furnished with 18th- and 19th-century decorative arts and farming tools. The Greek Revival framed home was built in 1845, while the barn dates to 1856. Both were repeatedly requisitioned by the armies of the Civil War. Other historical structures on site include a pit privy, corn crib, well house, buggy shed, and tackle barn.

The Frontier Culture Museum presents the story of the men and women who came to the United States prior to its existence as a country. The most common origin points of these people were England, Germany, Ireland, and West Africa. Reproductions and actual rural structures moved from these locations represent the various homelands, while another set of exhibits depicts their new life in North America in the 1740s, 1820s, and 1850s. Other topics discussed at the museum include food ways, woodworking, and fiber processing.
