The Historic Mobile Preservation Society was founded in 1935 in order to help preserve the history of Mobile, Alabama. The society's main attraction is the Oakleigh Historic Complex, which consists of a historic house museum, local history museum, and historic archives. The Oakleigh home is fitted with 19th century antique furniture, and is open to visitors year round. The society also owns the Cox-Deasy House, which is also operated as a historic house museum.

Description

The Litchfield Historical Society offers three sites to explore: the History Museum, the Tapping Reeve House and Law School, and the Ingraham Library. The Museum displays artifacts from daily life of Litchfield County dating back to its earliest settlers. The Reeve House and Law School shows students what an authentic 19th century school house would have been like.

Description

The Greater Houston Preservation Alliance is dedicated to preserving the rich historical and architectural heritage of Houston, Texas. While mainly focused on advocacy and preservation efforts, the alliance also offers walking tours of architecturally significant areas of Houston. The tours are offered every second Sunday or by appointment.

Description

The Centre County Historical Society is the one of the oldest and largest of the country's historical organizations. The society is headquartered in the Centre Furnace Mansion, a former ironmaster's home that is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is open as a historic house museum. In addition to the mansion, the society owns the Boogersburg School, a one-room schoolhouse that holds educational programs year round.

U.S. Naval Academy Museum [MD]

Description

The U.S. Naval Academy Museum presents the historical and modern role of the United States Navy—both in times of war and in times of peace. Emphasis is placed on artifacts related to Naval officers and Naval Academy alumni. Artifacts on display include those related to the USS Constitution, the USS Monitor, Edward Preble, Isaac Hull, John Dahlgren, and William Halsey. Other collection highlights include ship models made in the 18th century.

Description

The Lukens National Historic District chronicles the history of the iron and steel works industry in the town of Coatesville, Pennsylvania. The Lukens mill started as a small mill, but grew to become an industrial complex that held the world's largest plate mill. Today, the mill is open to visitors and stands much as it did when it finally closed down.
