The New York State Historical Association was founded to help preserve and promote the early history of the state of New York. Today, the association runs the Fenimore Art Museum, which is located in Cooperstown, and a extensive research library, which is also located in Cooperstown, and features over 88,000 volumes pertaining to early New York and American history.

The Johnson County Historical Society opened the Heritage Museum in 1983 in order to help chronicle the history of the area. The Ernest Hemingway Foundation of Oak Park works to preserve the birthplace and childhood home of the Earnest Hemingway. Hemingway was born in a small home located outside Chicago in Oak Park, Illinois. The foundation operates the Hemingway's childhood home as a historic house museum and also maintains a museum on Hemingway's life a short walk away.

The foundation offers exhibits and presentations in the museum, group and individual tours of the Hemingway birthplace, and traveling exhibits. The website offers visitor information, a brief biography of Hemingway, and links to literature by Hemingway.

The Keizer Heritage Museum presents the history of Keizer, Oregon. The museum is housed in a 1916 Craftsman-style schoolhouse.

The Demuth Museum presents the life and art work of Charles Demuth (1883-1935), as well as his historic late 18th-century family home. Demuth developed the artistic style called Precisionism; and he primarily utilized watercolors and oils. Next door is the Demuth's tobacco shop, established 1770, making it the oldest tobacco shop in the United States. The shop operates as a retail business, and is not part of the museum.

The Museum reveals the history of the San Joaquin region, from the Yokuts and Miwok through Captain Charles Weber (founder of Stockton and first farmer in the area) and the development of modern agriculture. The Museum has eight exhibition buildings, four historic buildings—including the Charles Weber cottage (1847) and Calaveras School (1866)—and features room dioramas of Weber family furnishings, a children's gallery, and large displays of hand tools and agricultural equipment.

St. Ignatius Mission is an 1890s religious structure located in the present-day Flathead Indian Reservation. The mission contains 61 paintings by one of its brothers. Paintings include depictions of the Salish Lord. A museum presents artifacts related to both the mission and Native American peoples.

The Eiteljorg Museum of the American Indians and Western Art presents Western-themed works of art and cultural information on Native Americans nation-wide. The museum collections are particularly strong in Plains and Southwest Native American artifacts. Displays emphasize Native American cultural diversity. Artworks include Modernist pieces, contemporary works in traditional manners, and the works of the Taos Society of Artists (1915-1927).

The Catawba County Firefighters Museum presents the history of firefighting in Catawba County, North Carolina. Collections include communication devices, a 1936 American LaFrance fire engine, a 1906 municipal alarm system, and an early 20th-century uniform.

The Derby Historical Society seeks to preserve and share the histories of Ansonia, Derby, Oxford, Seymour, and Shelton, Connecticut. To this end, the society operates the General David Humphreys House. David Humphreys (1752-1818) was a personal friend of George Washington; and became the first U.S. ambassador, assigned to Portugal. The house has been furnished in the style of mid 18th century.

The society offers walking tours and an educational role-playing program designed for fifth graders, the Day in 1972 Program.
