The small, stone Rock House, originally built to collect tolls on a private road, was built between 1835 and 1839 by Barlow Fiske, who operated a stagecoach inn and stables nearby. It played an important role in the early development of Tennessee's transportation system. Andrew Jackson often stopped here on trips from Nashville to Washington. Other notable visitors included James K. Polk, Sam Houston, and Frank Clement, all once governors of the Volunteer State.

Visitors can journey back in time at Old Deseret Village, a collection of more than 40 historic homes and buildings brought to life by historical interpreters. This is the Place Monument, located in the park, marks the end of the 1,300-mile Mormon trail.

The Beverly Historical Society seeks to preserve and share the socio-cultural, artistic, and transportation history of Beverly, Massachusetts and Massachusetts' North Shore. To this end, the society operates a museum of local history, the 17th-century Balch House, the Reverend John Hale Farm, and the Charles W. Galloupe Sr. Memorial Library. Collections consist of more than 750,000 artifacts. Highlights include a fire bucket, military artifacts, local maritime artifacts, paintings from the 18th through early 20th centuries, documents signed by U.S. Presidents, children's artifacts, and genealogical resources. The society also boasts an extensive collection of photographs and pamphlets of all manner of transportation technologies. The 1781 John Cabot House Museum holds both the library and exhibits. Permanent exhibits address the Revolutionary War and the Beverly Bank, established 1802. The Balch House is furnished to period. The Hale Farm is furnished to depict changing trends in Beverly's history.

The society offers exhibits, tours of the Cabot House, Balch House tours, Hale Farm tours, research library access, research assistance, curriculum-based programs, a one-hour Balch House tour for students, a two-hour historic Beverly bus tour for students, an outreach living history program for students, and teacher workshops. Fees are required for both non-member library access and research assistance. Non-member library access is limited. The living history program depicts author and poet Lucy Larcom (1824-1893).

The Senator John Heinz History Center is the largest history museum in the state of Pennsylvania, and covers 250 years of Pittsburgh's history. The center includes the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum, which presents Pittsburgh's sports history. Seventy exhibits in the sports museum are interactive, and the site also makes extensive use of audio and visual presentations. The research center, which offers sources relevant to Western Pennsylvania history, holds more than 400,000 publications and 3,500 archival collections. A substantial amount of archival documents relate to Jewish life. The center also claims strong African American and Italian American holdings. The center is affiliated with the Meadowcroft Museum of Rural Life, which includes the oldest known site of human habitation within the entirety of North America. This museum is listed separately within the National History Education Clearinghouse database.

The center offers interactive and traditional exhibits, audiovisual presentations, a research center, research assistance, Scout programs, and a deli. Offerings specifically for schools include guided tours, self-guided tours, hands-on activities, classes, and educational programs. Students, teachers, and school staff members are admitted to the research center free of charge with a valid school ID. Wheelchairs are available for use on site. A sign language interpreter is available with advance notice. The website offers videos and audio files.

The Jefferson County Historical Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and passing on the history and culture of Jefferson County, NE. It operates a number of historical sites, including historic Steele City, where visitors can see a working blacksmith shop, a livery barn, a school, a turn-of-the-century bank, and an 1880s stone church as well as an antique farm machinery display; the 1869 District 10 School; the 1872 W.C. Smith House and Lime Kiln, which features exhibits explaining the lime industry, as well as period furniture; the Rock Island Depot Railroad Museum, which displays rail history exhibits; and the 1883 Diller Bank Building Museum, which displays artifacts from the history of Diller, NE.

The sites offer tours and exhibits; the society offers occasional recreational and educational events.

Fayette Historic State Park houses a Historic Townsite, a representation of a once bustling industrial community. On the second Saturday of August the annual Heritage Day celebrates Fayette as a bustling iron smelting company town. Today, visitors to Fayette State Park see 19 structures including several public and commercial buildings, residences which housed the people of Fayette, and the stabilized ruins of the furnace complex. Attractions include a visitor center, museum exhibits, a 26-station walking tour, and a scale model of the original townsite.

The Kelley House Museum presents the history of the logging and shipping industries in and the Victorian architecture of the Mendocino Coast, California. The museum is located within an 1861 residence. Permanent exhibits include artifacts from the 1850 wreck of the Frolic, a clipper ship involved in the international opium trade.

The museum offers exhibits, guided walking tours, gardens, and archival access. Archival access is by appointment only.

The Maritime Event Center is a rental and special events venue which also maintains an interactive maritime museum.

The center offers interactive exhibits and both youth classes and tours about Puget Sound's maritime history, fisheries, global trade, and transportation.

Kensington Mansion is an 1854 Italianate Revival residence furnished with Victorian decorative arts. The grounds include the original kitchen building. Jacob Stroyer's (1848-1909) biography My Life in the South, published in 1879, described his time as a slave on Headquarters Plantation, site of Kensington Manor.

The mansion offers period rooms and guided tours. Reservations are required for groups of 10 or more.

The Cumberland County Historical Society seeks to preserve and share the history of Cumberland County, NJ. To this end, the society operates the Gibbon House Museum, John DuBois Maritime Museum, Reba and Warren Lummis Genealogical and Historical Research Library, and Cumberland County Prehistorical Museum. The John DuBois Maritime Museum presents Southern Jersey 19th- and 20th-century maritime history. Collections include caulking tools, rigging apparatus, shipwrights' tools, and builders' models. The Cumberland County Prehistorical Museum presents local ancient history, as well as more recent Native American history. Collections include Native American artifacts and fossils. Native American groups discussed include the Clovis, Lenape, Little Siconese, Sewapose, and Alloway.

The society offers exhibits, group tours, fourth and fifth grade educational programs, student tours, research library access, research assistance, hearthside cooking classes, and monthly continuing education classes. The John DuBois Maritime Museum is open by appointment only. A fee is charged for research assistance. At least two weeks notice is required for all school visits.
