"Founded in 1935, the Marin History Museum celebrates the traditions of innovation and creativity of the people of Marin County. Through exhibitions and educational programs, the Museum inspires honor for the past, an understanding of the present, and an imagination of the future." The museum was opened in 1959, and today offers one changing exhibit per year focusing on the history and culture of Marin County. The Blackwells Mills Canal House was built circa 1835 as a home for the men and women who operated the swinging bridges over the canal. In the 1970s, the last owner of the home died and the canal was declared a National Historic Site. Now, the house is a historic house museum, and visitors to the home can view how bridge operators lived in the 1800s as well as view artifacts and historical information about the Blackwells Mills Canal.

The Henry Morrison Flagler Museum preserves Whitehall, the estate of Henry Flagler, the noted railroad baron. The museum both chronicles the life and times of Flagler and the Florida East Coast Railway and serves as a local art museum.

In 1968, the Rankin House at 1440 Second Avenue was donated to the Historic Columbus Foundation in memory of James Waldo Woodruff, Sr., a visionary community leader. Fully restored, its first floor is an 1850-1870 house museum and Research Library. On the second floor are the main offices of Historic Columbus Foundation, Inc. The Rankin House was built during the Civil War for James Rankin, a notable planter and owner of the Rankin Hotel. The home is notable for its beautiful Victorian architecture.

The H. Lee White Marine Museum was founded in 1982, and was moved into its modern location along the historic Oswego piers in 1998. Currently, the museum is a fully functioning maritime museum, and holds a variety of maritime artifacts vessels. The undisputed highlight of the collection is the National Historic Landmark veteran of the WWII Normandy Invasion, the U.S. Army LT-5 Tugboat. The tugboat has been carefully restored and is currently the only remaining fully operational vessel of its kind. The museum is also working with the City of Oswego to preserve and protect the historic Oswego West Pierhead Lighthouse.

The Southern Oregon Historical Society was formed 63 years ago with the mission "to make history come alive by collecting, preserving, and sharing the stories and artifacts of our common heritage." Currently, the society owns seven unique historical properties including two museums, a historic house from the 1890s, Oregon's first bank, a small Catholic rectory, one of Jacksonville's first hotels, and a farm. The museums and the society's research library hold the society's extensive collection of almost a million stories and artifacts.

The Skinner Farm Museum is located in Perrysville, IN, which was located strategically on the Wabash and Erie Canal and became a hub for river commerce and business. The museum is composed of a working farm and a restored historic village. The museum village is representative of more than 150 years of local life. Museum highlights include a steam and gas show hosted once a year.

The South Dakota State Historical Society was first organized as the Old Settlers Association of Dakota Territory in 1862. Today, the society is an office within the Department of Tourism and Economic Development, and manages five programs—archaeology, archives, historic preservation, museum, and research and publishing. All programs with the exception of the State Archaeological Research Center are located in the Cultural Heritage Center building in Pierre.

The Monterey History and Art Association is dedicated to preserving the history of Monterey, CA. To this end, the association has two main projects, preserving historic homes and structures in Monterey and operating the Monterey Maritime and History Museum. The museum opened in 1971 and today holds almost 6000 artifacts and 50,000 photographs and papers. The association also releases a quarterly newsletter, "The Beacon."
