The Historical and Genealogical Society of Indiana County seeks to preserve and share the history of Indiana County, Pennsylvania. To this end, the society operates a museum and a research library. Exhibit topics include Native American life, farm life, historical medicine, and coal mining.

The Fairfax Station Railroad Museum is located in the old Fairfax Station, which played a vital role during the transportation of Union Troops during the Civil War. The station is notable for the humanitarian efforts that took place there during the second Battle of Manassas headed by Clara Barton. In addition to chronicling Clara Barton's humanitarian efforts, the museum also is home to a caboose, which visitors can tour.

The W.W. Mayo House was home to both the Mayo and Cosgrove families, who would go on to found the Mayo Clinic and Green Giant Food Company respectively. The home was hand-built by W.W. Mayo in 1859, and today is open as a fully restored historic house museum.

Eli Slifer is notable for serving in the position of Secretary of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania during the Civil War. It was during this period that the Slifer house was completed. Slifer lived in this home until his death in 1888. Today, the house and the surrounding grounds are owned by Albright Care Services, and offer visitors a view into the history of Pennsylvania as well as a variety of events, including tours and a summer camp.

The Anson County Historical Society is a nonprofit organization devoted to providing educational, cultural, and recreational benefits for the citizens of Anson County and anyone interested in Anson's rich history. It is dedicated to preserving the artifacts and structures of our past so we can present them in an educational environment for everyone to enjoy.

Historic Saranac Lake maintains ownership of Dr. Edward Livingston Trudeau's 1894 Saranac Laboratory, which was founded for the study of tuberculosis. The building survives as a tangible reminder of the possibility and optimism Trudeau sustained despite the struggle and loss of so many to this debilitating disease.

The organization offers educational programs and occasional recreational and educational events; the Laboratory is not yet open to the public, although restoration is in progress.

The Society is housed in and operates the Macon County Historical Museum in one of the oldest buildings in Macon County—the 100-year-old Pendergrass Store. The museum showcases displays on Cherokee history, medical and drugstore artifacts, period clothing, and other topics.

This small brick building is the late 19th-century office and hospital of horse-and-buggy doctor, Dr. William Davies Hutchings. This building contains most of the original equipment from Dr. Hutchings's practice as well as Hutchings's family furnishings.

Historic Ritzville maintains two museums. The Burroughs Home was the residence of Ritzville's pioneer physician, Dr. Frank R. Burroughs. It has been restored to its original condition and its collection highlights clothing and household items from the 1890s to the 1920s. The Depot features commercial artifacts relevant to Ritzville around the turn of the century. These include the town's original horse-drawn hearse and a working telegraph machine.

The Society maintains three historical properties, including the Beall-Dawson House, the Stonestreet Museum of 19th-century Medicine, and the Waters House History Center. Visitors can learn about the county's beginnings at the historic 1815 Beall-Dawson House, an elegant federal style townhome that features period rooms and changing exhibits. The museum tour highlights the culture and daily life of both the upper-class Beall family as well as the enslaved African Americans who labored in the house and on the adjacent property. The Stonestreet Museum offers an insider's look into the developments in medical science that occurred during the career of Dr. Edward E. Stonestreet. Built in 1852, this unique one-room Gothic Revival doctor's office features medical artifacts and implements that demonstrate the fascinating changes that occurred in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The Waters House History Center is housed in oldest house in Germantown—built in three parts, the oldest dates to the mid-1790s. It offers exhibits related to local history.
