The Eureka Schoolhouse is over 200 years old and represents Vermont's oldest one-room schoolhouse. The schoolhouse was restored in 1968 and is currently owned and maintained by the Vermont Division for Historic Preservation and is operated as an area attraction by the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce.

One of the first of thousands of patriots who would die in the war for American independence, Hale is Connecticut's official State Hero. He was born and spent most of the short life he courageously sacrificed on this 400-acre farm. Hale, a Yale-educated schoolteacher, was commissioned a first lieutenant in the Continental Army in 1775. A year later he volunteered to go behind British lines on Long Island to gather military intelligence desperately needed by General George Washington. The British captured Hale and, when they discovered he was a spy, executed him. He was 21. In 1776, Hale's father rebuilt the Homestead, which has changed little since. Its furnishings include collections amassed by pioneer Connecticut antiquarian George Dudley Seymour and several Hale family possessions.

According to tradition, the 1800 Forest Hall was built as a wedding gift for Charles Barrett and his bride by his father. Its grand scale was encouraged by the bride's father, who promised to furnish the house in as lavish a manner as it could be built. The interiors are, indeed, elegantly furnished.

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame serves as the nation's main basketball Hall of Fame. Notable Hall of Famers include famed coach Phil Jackson, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, and Wilt Chamberlain.

The Hall of Fame offers visitors a series of exhibits designed to showcase the history of basketball as well as biographies and highlights of all Hall of Famers. The website offers a listing of all Hall of Famers with accompanying biographies, along with information about awards presented by the Hall, a biography of Coach Naismith, information on upcoming events, and a history of both basketball and the Hall.

The Fire Hose Cart House is the last remaining 19th century firehouse on Nantucket Island. The structure was built in 1886, and was in service for well over a half century. The structure was acquired by the Nantucket Historical Association in 1960. Today, visitors to the museum can view a variety of vintage firefighting equipment, including some rare equipment relating to the great fire of 1846.

The Gaylordsville Historical Society was first formed in 1967 as a reaction to the city's statement that it would be closing the Gaylordsville School. The school was the last one room schoolhouse operating in the state, and so a group of local citizens banded together in order to keep the school building from being demolished. Presently, the society continues to work to preserve and protect historical structures, resources, and artifacts relating to the history of Gaylordsville. The society operates the 1871 Brown's Forge, a blacksmith shop with working forge.

The Blackstone River and Canal Heritage State Park is dedicated to showing the history of canals and their role in transportation between emerging industrial centers in the 19th century. Among the park's attractions are the Blackstone Canal itself, the Millville Lock, the Blackstone Gorge, and a variety of outdoor activities including camping and hiking.

Across Newport Harbor stands the largest coastal fortification in the United States. Visitors to this engineering and architectural masterpiece can see where the soldiers lived, enter the casemates, explore the tunnel system, and climb the bastions for breathtaking views. From 1824 to 1950, Fort Adams housed generations of our soldiers, today it still stands ready for exploration.

The Katahdin Iron Works is located in rural Maine and was the state's only iron works installation. The iron works operated between 1843 and 1890, and today stands as a monument to the industrial age in Maine. Visitors can view the carefully preserved iron furnaces and buildings, which were restored in 1966. In addition to the Iron Works, the state historic site also offers many options for outdoor activity, including hiking and camping.
