North Brookfield Historical Society [MA]

Description

"The North Brookfield Historical Society was founded in 1975 and later incorporated, for the purpose of studying, sharing, publicizing, and preserving the history of the town. It seeks to do this through regular meetings, programs, acquiring historic objects, photographs, and printed materials." The society is currently working towards creating a museum and continues to assemble materials and artifacts pertaining to North Brookfield history and genealogy.

Schooner Ernestina [MA]

Description

The schooner Ernestina, launched in 1894, is one of six remaining Essex-built schooners. The vessel also has the distinction of being the final sail-powered vessel to bring immigrants to the United States from the Cape Verde Islands.

The site appears to consist entirely of one interpretive sign and the opportunity to view the vessel from the pier.

Straus Center for Conservation [MA]

Description

"The Straus Center provides analysis and treatments for the collections of the Harvard University Art Museums. These collections include more than 150,000 objects in all media, ranging in date from antiquity to the present, and coming from Europe, North America, North Africa, the Middle East, India, Southeast Asia, and East Asia." In addition to working with the collections of the Harvard Art Museums, the Straus Center for Conservation also has a strong focus on training and education. The center provides a variety of educational programs and training courses in art preservation for students and interns.
