Description

The Jerome Historical society seeks to preserve and share the history of Jerome, Arizona, once known as the “Wickedest Town in The West.” To this end, the society operates a museum and an archival collection. The museum presents local history through displays covering mining history; gambling; the Chinese, Slavs, Italians, Russians, Mexicans, and Irish in Jerome; and other topics. Collection highlights include mining equipment and a Colt pistol used by Marshal Johnny Hudgens.

Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History [MI]

Description

The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History presents the history and culture of African Americans and their points of origin within Africa. It is is the world's largest institution dedicated to the African American experience. The museum boasts over 30,000 artifacts and archives, including major Underground Railroad and Detroit labor movement collections. Permanent exhibits include a historical overview of the African American experience, an interactive alphabet exhibit, and several large–scale works of art.

The museum offers exhibits; living history tours; tours led by museum educators; self–guided tours; workshops; films; live performances; lectures; a research library; a summer teacher's institute; and a designated dining area with sandwich, fruit, and beverage vending. Reservations are required for school groups, and the museum offers pizza and soda for an additional fee. Palmer Lake Historical Society [CO]

Description

The Palmer Lake Historical Society is dedicated to preserving the history of Palmer Lake, Monument, and the Palmer Divide. The society owns and operates a local history museum, and also is active in the preservation of the Crawford Memorial, a memorial to a Medal of Honor recipient from the town of Palmer Lake.

Villa Louis is the Victorian home of one of Wisconsin's most wealthy families. Today, visitors can explore the entire estate, from the mansion to the estate's outbuildings. In addition to the historic estate, the current park contains a museum that chronicles the history of the fur trade.

Description

The Huntington Beach International Surfing Museum serves both as a museum of the sport of surfing as well as a national surfing Hall of Fame. The museum hosts collections of surfing memorabilia and artifacts, along with exhibits and periodic special events.
