The Pueblo County Historical Society is dedicated to the preservation of the historical heritage of Pueblo, Colorado. Headquartered in the Southeastern Colorado History Center, the society has an extensive collection of historical artifacts and records.

Noted architects Charles and Henry Greene designed the Gamble House in 1908 for the Gamble family of Proctor & Gamble fame. The home is one of the finest examples of Arts and Crafts style architecture in the country. Today, the home is administered by the University of Southern California and serves as a historic house museum.

The mission of the Association is to collect, preserve, interpret, and exhibit materials reflecting the history and culture of Vashon-Maury Island and to serve as a resource for the community and region through educational programs, the collection of documents and data, and the operation of the Vashon-Maury Island Heritage Museum. The building in which the museum is housed was originally a Lutheran Church built in 1907 and subsequently used as the home for Vashon Allied Arts and the Vashon Children's Centre; today, it contains a permanent exhibit, periodic special exhibits, a History Resource Room, and an extensive archive of island photographs and other materials.

The historic town of Sonoma is located in the heart of the beautiful wine country between Napa and Santa Rosa off Highway 12. Situated around a central plaza (the largest of its kind in California) filled with shops and restaurants, the city is home to Sonoma State Historic Park—site of the northernmost Franciscan Mission in California and birthplace of the California State Bear Flag. Unlike most parks with a plot of land and geographical boundaries, Sonoma State Historic Park is a series of historic attractions in several locations within the community. The park is comprised of six sites: the Mission San Francisco Solano; the Blue Wing Inn; the Sonoma Barracks; and the Toscano Hotel, as well as La Casa Grande and Lachryma Montis, the homes of General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo, Military Commander and Director of Colonization of the Northern Frontier.

The Nevada State Railroad Museum contains a collection of locomotives and other rail memorabilia from Nevada's history including the Virginia and Truckee Railroad. Many of these were used in the 19th century before being bought by Hollywood studios for use in films.

Known historically as "the Gateway to the Dakotas," Fort Abercrombie was the first permanent United States military fort established in what was to become North Dakota. It was also the only post in the area to be besieged by Dakota (Sioux) warriors for more than six weeks during the Dakota Conflict of 1862. During the Dakota Conflict, Minnesota Volunteer soldiers manned the fort when area settlers sought shelter there. The "regular" U.S. Army soldiers had been withdrawn during the Civil War and had been replaced by the Minnesota Volunteer Infantry. The fort was not protected by blockhouses or a palisade during the seige, but these defensive structures were constructed soon afterward. The fort guarded the oxcart trails of the later fur trade era, military supply wagon trains, stagecoach routes, and steamboat traffic on the Red River. It also was a supply base for two major gold-seeking expeditions across Dakota into Montana. Fort Abercrombie served as a hub for several major transportation routes through the northern plains.

The 10-acre Kansas Oil Museum presents the history of the discovery of oil and the growth of the oil industry within the state of Kansas, as well as the history of Butler County. The site includes historical oil field equipment and a "boom town" of historic buildings. Topics addressed include G.W. Brown’s 1860s oil well, John Rockefeller’s Standard Oil Company, the connection between geology and oil, farming, ranching, and Native American ways of life.

The museum offers exhibits, camps, tours, Scout programs, oil rig demonstrations, educational outreach programs, and research library access. Advance notice is needed for oil rig demonstrations and school tours. The website offers definitions of drilling terminology and a writing competition.

The Puget Sound Maritime Historical Society seeks to preserve and share maritime history—with an emphasis on the history of Puget Sound. To this end, the society operates a research library. The library, located in the Museum of History and Industry, includes 4,500 volumes, more than 100 periodicals, 15,000 photographs of maritime vessels, and 40,000 negatives.

The society offers research library access and several exhibits hosted by other institutions. Appointments are required for library access. Exhibits are located at the Museum of History and Industry and at Chandler's Cove. The website offers videos of past speaker presentations.

Situated within the Crow Reservation in south-central Montana, this park was the home of Plenty Coups, last chief of the Crow. This park preserves the log home, sacred spring, and farmstead of Chief Plenty Coups. The small visitor center that traces the story of Chief Plenty Coups's life, and of the chief's efforts to lead his people in adopting the lifestyle of the white man.
