Description

The Tanana-Yukon Historical Society seeks to preserve and share the local history of Fairbanks, Alaska. To this end, the society operates the Wickersham House Museum, which has been restored to an early 1900s appearance. Once owned by Judge Wickersham (1857-1939), the structure was built in 1904. Wickersham was highly involved in the development of the Alaska Territory.

The house offers period rooms, while the society offers a lecture series.

Wells Fargo History Museum [CA]

Description

The Wells Fargo History Museum presents the history of Wells, Fargo & Co., a joint stock company for California banking and express business. Founded in 1852, the company was offering nationwide service as early as 1888. The museum collection includes a period Agent's office in a recreated historical building; an original Concord Coach, acquired by Wells Fargo in 1867; a 19th-century pocket watch; and two telegraph machines.

San Francisco Architectural Heritage [CA]

Description

San Francisco Architectural Heritage seeks to preserve and share the history of San Francisco's architectural structures. The society operates the Haas-Lilienthal House, built 1886. It is the only Queen Anne-style Victorian in the country to offer tours regularly. The interior is decorated in period style.

The organization offers Haas-Lilienthal House tours, neighborhood tours, and an educational program for students. This program consists of a teacher's workshop, a traveling trunk, a treasure hunt tour of a Victorian neighborhood, and a tour of the Haas-Lilienthal House. Oklahoma History Center

Description

The Center is an 18-acre, 215,000-square-foot learning center exploring Oklahoma's history through geology, transportation, commerce, culture, aviation, heritage, and more. The Center houses five state-of-the-art galleries containing more than 200 hands-on audio, video, and computer activities. Outside the museum, the Red River Journey offers visitors a walking tour of the Red River Valley featuring land forms, vegetation, and important historical locations. The grounds also include an outdoor oilfield exhibit with drilling derricks, a portable derrick, and machinery associated with Oklahoma oil explorations.

The museum offers exhibits, tours, lectures, and educational and recreational events and programs.

The Polson Museum [WA]

Description

The Polson Museum seeks to preserve and share the history of Grays Harbor, Washington. The museum is housed in a 1926 26-room mansion—with 17 rooms housing exhibits. Also on-site is a replic of the Polson Logging Company blacksmith shop, which contains tools original to the location. Collection highlights include more than 2,500 historic photographs.
