Columbus Historical Society

Description

The Society was founded in 1990 by a group of avid professional and amateur local historians with a passion to share Columbus history. The Society was formed to protect and share the history of the broader community, with an emphasis on the core city and county environs. The Society works closely with other local historical organizations to cross-promote activities, education, events, preservation, programs, and publications offered throughout the community. The Society provides outstanding free public programs, offsite exhibits, publications, elementary and adult education, and its signature summer bus tour series. The Society collects Columbus and Central Ohio historic artifacts and documents the stories of people, places, and events in Columbus and Ohio history.

Description

The American Folklore Society is an association of people who study and communicate knowledge about folklore throughout the world. The Society's more than 2,200 members and subscribers are scholars, teachers, and libraries at colleges and universities; professionals in arts and cultural organizations; and community members involved in folklore work.

Geaugu County Historical Society and Century Village Museum

Description

The Society operates the Century Village, a collection of historic buildings that have been relocated to Burton. Among the buildings on site are the Crossroads Country Store, an old schoolhouse, a sawmill, and the 1798 Umberfield Cabin.

The Village offers tours, living history events, and educational and recreational programs.
