The Frederick Douglass National Historic Site is dedicated to preserving the legacy of the most famous 19th-century African American. Visitors to the site learn about his efforts to abolish slavery and his struggle for rights for all oppressed people.

Adams National Historical Park tells the story of four generations of the Adams family (from 1720 to 1927). The park has two main sites: the Birthplaces of 2nd U.S. President John Adams and 6th U.S. President John Quincy Adams, and Peacefield including the “Old House,” home to four generations of the Adams family, and the Stone Library which contains more than 14,000 historic volumes.

The site offers guided tours of the homes.

The Park includes the Peirce Barn and Mill and Old Stone House. Peirce Barn and Mill were built in the 1820s, and operated commercially until 1897. The U.S. Government acquired the mill as part of Rock Creek Park in 1892. The Old Stone House, one of the oldest known structures remaining in the nation's capital, is a simple 18th-century dwelling built and inhabited by common people.

NOTE: The Peirce Mill is currently closed for restoration.

Eisenhower National Historic Site is the home and farm of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Located adjacent to the Gettysburg Battlefield, the farm served the President as a weekend retreat and a meeting place for world leaders. The site comprises 690 acres and includes four farms, three of which were used by President Eisenhower for his show herd of black Angus cattle. Today the farm is maintained as it was during the Eisenhower years and the President's home retains nearly all its original furnishings.

Vanderbilt Mansion, in terms of architecture, interiors, mechanical systems, road systems, and landscape, is a remarkably complete example of a gilded-age country place, illustrating the political, economic, social, cultural, and demographic changes that occurred as America industrialized in the years after the Civil War.

The site focuses on Lincoln's life in Kentucky. The Birthplace Unit demonstrates his humble beginnings with a symbolic birth cabin enshrined within a neo-classic Memorial Building. The Boyhood Home Unit at Knob Creek Farm was home to Lincoln during his formative years. Events in Kentucky helped mold a young boy into the man who became the nation's 16th President.

Franklin D. Roosevelt loved Springwood and considered the estate home. The first U.S. Presidential Library was started by FDR here. Visitors to the Home of FDR and Presidential Library and Museum can learn about the only President elected to four terms.

Eleanor Roosevelt chose Val-Kill for her retreat, her office, her home, and her "laboratory" for social change during the prominent and influential period of her life from 1924 until her death in 1962. During that time she formulated and carried out her social and political beliefs. This is the place most closely associated with one of the most prominent women of 20th-century America.

Visitors to this site can discover the beautiful home, studios, and gardens of Augustus Saint-Gaudens, one of America's greatest sculptors. Over 100 of his artworks can be seen in the galleries, from heroic public monuments to expressive portrait reliefs, and the gold coins which changed the look of American coinage. Visitors can also enjoy summer concerts, explore nature trails, or discover their own talents during a sculpture class.
