Reverend Samuel Adair and his wife, Florella, were peaceful abolitionists who came to Kansas and settled near Osawatomie, an abolitionist community and a center of conflict during "Bleeding Kansas." The Adair cabin was a station on the Underground Railroad and Florella's half brother, John Brown, used this cabin as his headquarters. The cabin survived the Battle of Osawatomie where John Brown and 30 free-state defenders fought 250 proslavery militia in 1856, and stands on the battle site today. Visitors to the Museum can learn more about the Adairs, John Brown, and others who struggled to survive the border war.

A man of great energy and many talents, Eric Sloane (1905&150;1985) was a prolific artist, author, and illustrator and an avid collector of Americana. His extensive collection of hand tools is displayed in a building gifted to the State by the Connecticut-based Stanley Works to mark the company's 125th anniversary. The collection reveals an American heritage of craftsmanship. Adjacent to the museum, Sloane himself built a pioneer cabin as described by Noah Blake in Diary of An Early American Boy, an 1805 diary published by Sloane. The Kent Iron Furnace, which is on the museum property, began production of pig iron in 1826 and continued for almost 70 years. The remains of the granite blast furnace with its Gothic arches can be seen just below the museum.

"The Renville County Historical Society was organized in 1940 for the purpose of collecting, preserving, and sharing the history of Renville County and its people."

"Before the turn of the twentieth century, settlers began to flock to the beautiful Sacramento Mountains, encroaching on the Mescalero Apaches who already made their homes in the cool timbers. Some came looking for a better country for permanent settlement. Others were interested in harvesting timber to build a railroad from El Paso to points north. Still others came on holiday, finding respite in the cool breezes and mild temperatures of what the Apaches once termed as Pisacah, 'a place of plenty.'

"Organized in 1986, the Muskegon Area Sports Hall of Fame honors our own heroes and legends, spanning the rich history of sports achievement in the Lake Michigan shoreline area anchored by Ludington to the North and Grand Haven to the south."

"The Scarborough Historical Society was established in 1961 to protect the rich history, heritage, and traditions of Scarborough. Pieces of that heritage were rapidly being taken out of state by those who were willing to pay the price. The mission of our society is to inform the community of this history by collecting, preserving, and displaying materials associated with our past."

The 1925 Casa del Herrero, meaning "house of the blacksmith," is a Spanish Colonial-style estate. The home is furnished with pieces original to the site; and contains drawings, sketchbooks, horticultural records, antiques, and books, which once belonged to the family in residence. The grounds contain extensive gardens. During the 1920s, a new form of distinctive California landscape design inspired by Spanish land and gardens rose to prominence. While the site name includes the word "blacksmith," the owner George Fox Steedman was an engineer by trade and a silversmith for enjoyment.

The site offers period rooms; gardens; guided tours of the residence, workshop, and gardens; and guided group tours. Tours are by reservation only, and all participating children must be at least 10 years of age. With the exception of holiday tours, tours are available between mid-February and mid-November only.

"The Boulder Historical Society and Museum was founded in 1944 by A.A. 'Gov' Paddock, then publisher of the Boulder Daily Camera. The organization, now called the Boulder History Museum, is located in the historic landmark Harbeck-Bergheim House on University Hill in Boulder, Colorado. A private-not-for-profit organization, it is governed by a board of trustees of 18 community leaders and has a staff of five. Its mission is to foster understanding and appreciation for the unique history of the Boulder region and the resourceful, innovative people who have chosen to live here - a living history that grows with each new generation."

"The museum building is one of the oldest surviving buildings in Van Horn. When Culberson County was first created (it broke off from El Paso County), the Museum site served as the first courthouse while one was being constructed. It subsequently served as a hotel for more than four decades. It was purchased in 1979 by the Museum Association and has been in the process of restoration since that time.

The Museum contains a large quantity of artifacts reflecting the history of Van Horn and the surrounding area. It features an old western style saloon with bar and mirrored back bar which have been in the same room since the early 1900’s. There are displays showing the history of mining, ranching, the railroad, and other early activities, as well as personal items which belonged to members of early pioneer families who first settled here."
