The mission of the Society is to operate and maintain the Lauder Museum and to encourage and promote the discovery, collection, preservation, and display of historical objects. In addition, the Society disseminates and publishes historical facts and knowledge about the activities, sites, memorabilia, and materials of the South Shore of Long Island in and around Amityville.

Adena was the 2,000-acre estate of Thomas Worthington (1773–1827), sixth governor of Ohio and one of the state's first United States Senators. The mansion house, completed in 1806–1807, has been restored to look much as it did when the Worthington family lived there, including many original Worthington family furnishings. The house is one of only three houses designed by Benjamin Henry Latrobe still standing in the U.S. Latrobe is considered the first professional American architect and served as architect of the US capitol under President Thomas Jefferson. A new Museum and Education Center features interactive exhibits that use the stories of people connected to Adena to give visitors a picture of life in Ohio in the early 1800s.

"The Homeville Antique Fire Department started in 1979 with the purchase of the 1927 Brockway truck and has grown over the years to what you see listed above. The apparatus are stored in a 48' x 60' steel building erected in 1994. All the apparatus except the '27 Brockway and the '35 Ward LaFrance are fully equipped and operational. Those two units are undergoing frame up restorations. I offer information, parts, manuals, and paint numbers and other technical assistance to anyone needing such American LaFrance related info. The Society's Museum is housed in a two-story red brick structure designed by George Pass and built in 1895—one of the few remaining examples of late 19th-century schoolhouse architecture. The Museum interprets the history of Le Sueur County through a collection that includes a prehistoric bison skull, one-room school, general store, vintage toy displays, church artifacts, Victorian rooms, and Native American objects. An Art Room showcases area artisans and exhibits honoring the work of Adolf Dehn, Roger Preuss, and David Maass.
