The AASLH Annual Meeting is a one-of-a-kind networking and learning opportunity for history professionals, historical sites, historical societies, history museums, military museums, libraries, presidential sites, students, suppliers, and more. Attendees share their passion, ideas, and knowledge with over 800 peers in the field of state and local history. The meeting provides an opportunity to learn from over 80 sessions and 17 pre-meeting workshops that directly relate to the latest issues and trends in the field.
This honor will be given to two educators who have demonstrated exceptional teaching abilities in the field of social studies, elementary or secondary.
The nominee must be a full-time teacher in Indiana and a member of the Indiana Council for the Social Studies and must have a current teaching license and be teaching that licensure area.
The Indiana Council for the Social Studies (ICSS) will fund one grant of $300 for use as seed money for teacher-created or teacher-developed classroom projects or research in the social studies.
Applicants must be a member of the Indiana Council for the Social Studies, be present at the ICSS convention to accept the award, and provide tangible output to the ICSS Awards and Grants committee within one year of receipt of the grant.
The theme of this conference is "Empowering Students for the Future: Textbooks, Technology, and Innovations in Social Studies Education."
This meeting will focus on the theme "Life Stories as History," looking at how life stories may be used to better understand both individual daily lives and greater social contexts in history.
This conference will focus on the theme "Liberty, Equality, and Justice for All!: Re-establishing the Social Studies' Rightful Place in the Curriculum." Speakers will include Dr. Tyrone Howard and James Alexander Thom and Dark Rain Thom, and sessions will look at subjects such as World War II, Indiana history, teaching techniques, and multimedia resources.
