West Sacramento Historical Society [CA]

Description

The West Sacramento Historical Society seeks to preserve and share the history of West Sacramento and East Yolo County, California. The society operates a museum and several interpretive displays located throughout the area. Collection highlights include three fire engines—a 1926 Federal with Dodge Brothers engine, a 1937 Chevy wooden tanker, and a 1954 or '55 International engine.

Milford Historical Society and Museum [MI]

Description

The Milford Historical Society seeks to spread knowledge of the history of Milford, Michigan and the community thereof. To this end, they have established a museum and a research and archives room. The museum is housed in an 1853 Greek revival home, originally erected by a local cabinet maker. The building has previously been a home to local merchants and the offices for Milford Village, Milford Township, and the local police department. The upper floor is furnished in a late Victorian style, and contains locally made furniture. In contrast, the lower floor recreates 1830s cabin life.

The society offers museum exhibits and a research room.

Quincy Historical Society [MA]

Description

The Quincy Historical Society presents the history of Quincy, Massachusetts, best known as the home of John and Abigail Adams and John Quincy Adams, and the its contributions to ways of life in the United States. Other notable influences from Quincy include use of their granite supplies; the "Quincy Method" in education; the Fore River Shipyard and its products; and Howard Johnson ice cream, restaurants, and hotels. The Adams Academy, which houses the society, used to function as a boys' college preparatory school and dates to 1872. Gothic revival in style and using local granite, the academy stands on the previous site of the house in which patriot John Hancock was born.

The society offers exhibits, guest lectures, guest performances, curricula, public speaking by request, several publications, and a non-circulating library.

Hagley Museum and Library [DE]

Description

Hagley Museum and Library collects, preserves, and interprets the unfolding history of American enterprise. Hagley is the site of the gunpowder works founded by E. I. du Pont in 1802. This example of early American industry includes restored mills, a workers' community, and the ancestral home and gardens of the du Pont family.

The museum offers exhibits, tours, educational programs, research library access, demonstrations, and recreational and educational events (including living history events).

Old Economy Village [PA]

Description

Old Economy Village interprets the history of the Harmony Society, a highly successful 19th-century religious communal society, and preserves and interprets the unique material culture of the Society during its period of residence in Beaver County, PA, for citizens of and visitors to the Commonwealth.

The site offers tours, exhibits, educational programs, workshops, and occasional recreational and educational events.

San Mateo County History Museum [CA]

Description

Housed in the old San Mateo County Courthouse, the Museum is preserves the history of the county and makes it accessible to the public. It hosts exhibits detailing the history and development of the county.

The museum offers exhibits, tours, research library access, educational programs, and recreational and educational events (including living history events).

Northwest Franklin County Historical Society and Historic Village and Museum [OH]

Description

The Society owns and maintains the Northwest Franklin County Historical Village and Museum. At the Village, visitors can walk into an 1850 period log cabin and see how people cooked, slept, washed, and entertained themselves; visit the 1890 Grandview School and imagine how it must have been to attend a one-room schoolhouse; visit the 1876 Colwell Church and admire the simple beauty of the worship area and altar; visit one of Hilliard's original train stations built in 1891 and step up to the Chesapeake & Ohio Caboose and see what life was for an early conductor; and walk into an 1870 barn and touch and explore the farm equipment of the period. At the 4,000-square-foot museum, visitors will see a blend of art and history exploring the growth of Northwest Franklin County.

The village and museum offer exhibits and tours; the society offers research library access.

Sherburne History Center

Description

The Center showcases the semipermanent exhibit "Life on the Edge," featuring the history of Sherburne County, as well as rotating exhibits; the outdoors Legacy Trail leads past local historic structures.

The center offers exhibits, tours, research library access, lectures, and educational and recreational events.

High Plains Historical Society and The Northern Drylanders Museum [CO]

Description

The High Plains Historical Society seeks to preserve and share the history of Northern Weld County, Colorado. To this end, the society operates The Northern Drylanders Museum. Located within the 1934 Old Nunn Municipal Hall, the museum presents information and artifacts of local historical interest.

The museum offers exhibits, tours, lectures, and outreach presentations. Reservations are required for group tours.

Trinidad History Museum [CO]

Description

Visitors can explore Trinidad’s past and its place in the American West at the Trinidad History Museum. The museum features several attractions on one block in Trinidad's acclaimed historic district. The Baca House and Kitchen Garden is a unique adobe home which evokes the lifestyle of community leaders Dolores and Felipe Baca and their children. Heirloom herbs and vegetables thrive in the garden. The Bloom Mansion and Historic Gardens preserve the Victorian home of banker and cattle baron Frank Bloom. The Santa Fe Trail Museum is a historic adobe building housing family heirlooms, commercial goods, and photographs that tell the stories of the people and events of Trinidad's past.
