The National Museum of the Pacific War presents the history of World War II's Pacific Theater. The museum offers a secondary museum, the Admiral Nimitz Museum; the George Bush exhibit gallery; plaques commemorating all U.S. presidents who served in World War II; a memorial courtyard; a traditional Japanese garden given to the U.S. by Japanese military leaders; and the Pacific Combat Zone. The Admiral Nimitz Museum chronicles the life of Chester Nimitz (1885-1966), a key leader in the Pacific Campaign. The Pacific Combat Zone allows visitors to sit on an aircraft carrier, visit a South Pacific PT boat base, experience the sounds of combat, and view a medical unit. Outdoor artifacts include both Allied and Japanese aircraft, tanks, and large-scale artillery.

The museum offers exhibits; guided tours of the Pacific Combat Zone exhibit; traveling trunks; living history programs, guided tours, self-guided tours, and outreach presentations by living history actors and veterans for students; memorials; a garden; and archive access. The George Bush Gallery is closed for renovation. The rest of the museum remains accessible.

The Northern Indiana Historical Society operates the Center for History. The center consists of a Victorian mansion, a circa 1820 cottage, local and Notre Dame history exhibits, and a children's museum. The 1896 Romanesque Queen Anne mansion Copshaholm contains its original furnishings. The residence was home to J.D. Oliver, president of the Oliver Chilled Plow Works. The grounds hold of 2.5-acres of gardens, restored to their 1915 appearance.

The center offers exhibits, period rooms, guided tours of Copshaholm and the Worker's Home, student exhibit and house tours, summer camps, educational programs for students, and archive access. Neither Copshaholm nor the Worker's Home is wheelchair accessible. Appointments are recommended for archive access. The cottage is only open during annual educational events. The children's museum is currently closed for renovation.

The Old Number One Firehouse Museum, located within a circa 1923 fire station, presents firefighting history. Collections include historic fire engines.

The museum offers traditional and interactive exhibits, and is open by appointment only.

The Amistad Research Center is the largest independent archives within the U.S., focusing on African American history, as well as the histories of other ethnic groups. Collections include 250,000 photographs from 1859 onward, manuscripts, and 800 African and African American artworks.

The center offers archive access, 45-minute guided tours, and art exhibits. Reservations are required for all groups, and must be made at least two weeks in advance. The website offers digital collection access.

The 1835 Federal and Georgian Wylie House was home to Andrew Wylie, the first president of Indiana University. The site has been restored to its appearance prior to 1860. Topics addressed include Bloomington, IN; Indiana University; and domestic life.

The museum offers exhibits, period rooms, guided tours, and educational programs for students. The museum is open March through November. The website offers virtual exhibits.

The Vermont State Historical Society presents the history of the state of Vermont from the days of Abenaki dominance to circa 2000. To this end, the society operates a museum and a history and genealogy research library. The Vermont History Museum's permanent exhibit depicts change over time through a series of full-size period settings, interpreting the state motto, "Freedom and Unity." Collection highlights include the document which officially admitted Vermont to the Union and shoe buckles once worn by Ethan Allen (1738-1789), who helped capture Fort Ticonderoga in 1775.

The society offers exhibits, curriculum-based guided student tours with hands-on activities, curriculum-based student educational programs, traveling trunk rentals, a lending library for educators, in-service educator training, family workshops, and research library access. Students and members may use the library free of charge. The website offers virtual exhibits, transcriptions of select manuscripts and Civil War diaries and letters, historical photographs, and lesson plans.

The 1858 Greek Revival Earle-Harrison House is furnished in the style of the Victorian era (1837-1901). Several of the furnishings belonged to the Earle and Harrison families, who once resided in the home. The home is surrounded by nearly 6 acres of gardens, which suggest the possible grandiosity of the original gardens.

The house offers period rooms and tours. Appointments are required for visitation.

The Compass Inn Museum presents daily life, transportation, and the evolution of common linguistic phrases through the 19th century. The museum consists of a restored 1799 inn, furnished in period style; barn; blacksmith shop; and reconstructed cook house. Highlights include a Conestoga wagon; farrier tools, used to shoe horses; and a 1700s open hearth and beehive oven.

The museum offers period rooms, 90-minute guided living history tours, student tours, and picnic benches. The museum is open May through October. Reservations are required for groups of 20 or more, and requested for groups of 10 or more. Student tours include a pre-visit package, a scavenger hunt, and optional hands-on activities.

The National Archives and Records Administration stores federal archival materials deemed to be of the most importance to national history.

The archives offer 90-minute guided tours, outreach workshops for students, distance learning workshops for students, and archive access. Reservations must be made at least six weeks in advance for guided tours.

The 281-acre Garfield Farm and Inn Museum consists of a farmstead and teamster inn, both of which date to the 1840s. The museum presents information on historic farming practices, the prairie environment, daily life, innkeeping, and transportation.

The museum offers tours, 90-minute student building tours, 90-minute student prairie tours, seminars, monthly prairie walks, outreach slide lectures, high school internships, and a summer camp. Appointments are required October through May.
