The Historic Warehouse District Development Corporation seeks to bolster the vitality of Cleveland, Ohio's previous commercial center. Prior to the 1850s, this area served as Cleveland's residential section. Over time, it shifted to hold warehouses, small businesses, and offices for the iron, coal, railway, and shipping industries. By the 1920s, this section of the city had grown to include a garment district, rivaling the garment production of New York City at that time.

The McLean County Historical Society preserves local history, and shares it with the public via a series of museums located in Washburn, North Dakota. These museums consist of two main museum buildings, the Joe Taylor Cabin (1869), the Sioux Ferryboat (in use 1952–1962), and an old school house (1882). The main museum buildings contain fossils, information on Lewis & Clark, farming tools, military memorabilia, models of historic structures, Native American artifacts, coal industry history, musical instruments, train station artifacts, memorabilia from local organizations, and a variety of period room dioramas.

Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park contains a museum which interprets southwestern Virginia's pioneer and 1890s coal boom history. The museum is housed in the 1880s mansion of Rufus Ayers, a past Virginia attorney general; and boasts a collection of over 20,000 artifacts.

The museum offers exhibits, children's activities, workshops, educational programs, Scout programs, and picnic shelters. The grounds are largely wheelchair accessible, while the museum is not.

The Historical and Genealogical Society of Indiana County seeks to preserve and share the history of Indiana County, Pennsylvania. To this end, the society operates a museum and a research library. Exhibit topics include Native American life, farm life, historical medicine, and coal mining.

The society offers exhibits and library access. There is a nominal fee for library use by individuals who are not society members.

The Museum tells the story of the people who came from Europe to work in the anthracite mining and textiles industries. On a tour of the facility visitors will experience the lives of proud people who endured harsh working conditions yet carved out communities filled with tradition. The diverse collection highlights life in the mines, mills, and factories. Visitors are welcomed into the families' homes and neighborhoods with a moment of reflection in the kitchen, a visit to the pub, or a seat in a local church.
