Description

The Century House, also known as the Snyder Estate, is the former home of Andrew Snyder, and was a small family farm until the discovery of natural cement in the region in 1825. The area experienced impressive industrial growth up to the 1970s, and was the United State's largest producer of cement during that time.

Bisbee Mining and Historical Museum and Muheim Heritage House Museum [AZ]

Description

The Bisbee Mining and Historical Museum, housed in the former corporate headquarters of the Copper Queen Consolidated Mining Company, interprets the rise of the copper mining industry in the region. The Museum also maintains the Muheim Heritage House Museum, an 1898 home restored to its turn-of-the-century state.

The Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame presents the history of basketball within Indiana. The National Rod & Custom Car Hall of Fame is the brainchild of Daryll Starbird, famed custom car designer. The hall of fame serves as both a museum of custom car construction and style as well as a hall of fame for the leaders of the custom car construction and design industry.

Old Firehouse Museum [MA]

Description

The Old Firehouse Museum presents the history of South Hadley, Connecticut; local industries; and local firefighting between 1899 and 1973, the years in which the firehouse was in active use by the area fire department. Permanent exhibits include an 1890s period room and a firefighting display. Collection highlights include a 1926 Dodge Fire Engine and two 19th-century hand pumpers.

Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania

Description

The Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania houses one of the most significant collections of historic railroad artifacts in the world. Devoted to preserving and interpreting the broad impact of railroad development on society, the Museum displays over 100 locomotives and cars from the mid-19th and 20th centuries, including the priceless Pennsylvania Railroad Historical Collection.

Marble Valley Historical Society and Museums [GA]

Description

The Marble Valley Historical Society seeks to preserve and share the history of Pickens County, Georgia. To this end, the society operates two historical structures, the Old Pickens County Jail and the Kirby-Quinton Mountain Heritage Cabin. The jail, used between 1906 and 1982, now holds exhibits on county history and law enforcement. The cabin was built in 1975 using logs from an older structure. The interior is styled in antique furnishings and decorative arts.

The society offers exhibits, period rooms, and tours. Tours of the jail and cabin are available by appointment.
