New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum

Description

The Museum brings to life the 3,000-year history of farming and ranching in New Mexico. The main building contains more than 24,000-square-feet of exhibit space, along with catering space for meetings and events, a mercantile, and theater. Visitors can watch a cow being milked, stroll along corrals filled with livestock, enjoy several gardens, or watch one of a growing number of demonstrations.

The museum offers exhibits, tours, demonstrations, classes, lectures, and other educational and recreational events and programs.

Seneca Museum of Waterways and Industry [NY]

Description

The Seneca Museum celebrates historic Seneca Falls, Seneca County, and the Finger Lakes region of central New York State. The Museum illustrates how the Seneca River and the Cayuga-Seneca Canal powered the rise of industry and fostered cultural development, helping to spread social reform movements.

The museum offers exhibits and educational and recreational programs and events.

Rosson House Museum [AZ]

Description

This 2,800 square foot beautiful Eastlake architectural style Victorian home built in 1895 features 10 rooms and five fireplaces. Visitors can see what life was like for Rosson House residents of Block 14, owners and tenants both, in early Phoenix during Arizona's late territorial times all in its original location.

The museum offers exhibits, tours, and educational and recreational events.

Harriet Tubman Home [NY]

Description

The Harriet Tubman Home preserves the legacy of "the Moses of Her People" in the place where she lived and died in freedom. The site is located on 26 acres of land in Auburn, New York, and is owned and operated by the AME Zion Church. It includes four buildings, two of which were used by Harriet Tubman. Some articles of furniture, and a portrait that belonged to Harriet Tubman are now on display in the Home.

The site offers tours and occasional recreational and educational events.

Cherokee County Historical Society and Crescent Farm Historical Center [GA]

Description

The Society operates the the Crescent Farm's Rock Barn, constructed in 1906 by Augustus Lee Coggins. It is believed to be the only existing rock barn in Georgia; today, it serves the Society as a meeting hall, exhibition center, and special events facility. The Society also maintains the Historic Courthouse Jail.

The barn offers exhibits; the jail offers tours by appointment; and the society offers research library access and recreational and educational events.

B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretative Center [MS]

Description

The B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center will take visitors back to the place where B.B. King grew up and lived the blues long before he learned to make the music that would change his life. Proposed educational, cultural, and character development programming will take the form of classes, mentoring, and interactive exhibits. In addition, the stories of the Delta, from its history to its music, social mores, race relations, literature and legends, and adversities and successes will be examined in one interpretive setting.

Please note: The museum will open Sept. 13, 2008.

Greenwood Furnace State Park [PA]

Description

A walk through historic Greenwood Furnace evokes images of the community that flourished here from 1834 to 1904. Greenwood Furnace was a busy industrial complex, with all the noise and dirt of a 19th-century ironmaking community. Today, the park covers 423 acres, including a six-acre lake, and is surrounded by an 80,000-acre block of Rothrock State Forest. Interpretive programming at the park is centered on the former Greenwood Furnace and the company town that grew up around it.

The park offers exhibits, tours, and educational and recreational events.

Castle Air Museum [CA]

Description

Castle Air Museum presents history through the display of restored historic aircraft. Visitors can stand under the wing of a Convair RB-36H Peacemaker, a Boeing B-52, or of many other planes.

Point Sur State Historic Park [CA]

Description

Point Sur Lighthouse and its supporting lightstation buildings, now a California State Historic Park, stand atop a dramatic volcanic rock just offshore in Big Sur, California. This historic aid-to-navigation has a modern aero-beacon which still guides ships along the treacherous Central California Coast. From 1889 until 1974, families lived and worked in the buildings atop Point Sur.
