The Barnes County Historical Society seeks to preserve and share the history of Barnes County, ND, and the surrounding area. To this end, the society operates a museum of local history which contains relevant temporary exhibits. Collection highlights include the shoes of the "Largest Man in Dakota Territory," Christian Paetow, as well as a 1901 Oldsmobile.

The Varnum Continentals built their armory in 1913 in the medieval architectural style. The armory is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A 1984 State Historical Building Survey described the Varnum Memorial Armory as remaining in perfect original condition. Among the key architectural details are the towers, the massive double doors, the multiple arched windows, and the crenellated parapet along the roofline. The armory serves contains an extensive military and naval museum which has been acquired through donation and purchase.

The California Museum for History, Women, and the Arts preserves, presents, and creates California history. The Museum brings the state's rich and diverse history alive through the extraordinary collection of the California State Archives and other collections throughout the state. For the first time, California's women have a home for their stories in a museum about California history. The California Museum also promotes the state's artistic and cultural heritage. Here visitors will find an active, engaging center that serves as a bridge from the past to the future.

The Society promotes the increase of knowledge and interest in that portion of the Catskill Mountains referred to generally as the "Mountain Top" through the study and preservation of its art, literature, history, culture, folklore, legends, and environment by means of a variety of programs, activities, and projects.

The Society operates Heritage Junction, a site including eight historic buildings: the 1890 Pardee House, the 1893 Newhall Ranch House, the 1887 Saugus Train Station, the 1865 Mitchell Adobe, the 1919 Edison House, the 1878 Kingsburry House, the 1927 Callahan Schoolhouse, and the 1926 Ramona Chapel.

The society offers lectures, film screenings, and occasional recreational and educational events; the Kingsburry House offers tours; and the Saugus Train Station offers exhibits.

The Society operates several historical sites, including the Pioneer Village Museum Complex, the Cozens Ranch and Stage Stop Museum, and Heritage Park. The Pioneer Village Museum features displays including original railroad cars and railroad exhibits, plus an historic enclosure featuring five original structures that interpret Grand County history. One of the earliest stage stops in Grand County, the Cozens Ranch and Stage Stop Museum includes staging and freighting history and features a replica stagecoach, several local history exhibits, and an authentic interpretation of 19th-century stagecoach travel. Heritage Park preserves the restored 1903 McElroy Livery and an 1885 log cabin.

The society offers in-character presentations; the Pioneer Village Museum offers exhibits; the Cozens Ranch offers exhibits; the Livery and cabin offer tours.

For the child who believes milk comes from the grocery store instead of a cow, for the woman who remembers using a cornsheller on her grandmother's farm, or the family who takes 20th-century technological advances and the farmer for granted, the Delaware Agricultural Museum and Village offers a memorable and educational experience. By preserving the quickly fading agricultural heritage of Delaware and the Delmarva Peninsula, the Museum stands as an important legacy for future generations. A main exhibit building and 15 historic structures associated with a 19th-century farming community bring the fascinating story of agriculture to life. More than 4,000 artifacts are displayed in the main exhibit building—from butter churns to threshers, from an 18th-century log house to the first broiler chicken house.

The Rhode Island Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission is the state agency for historical preservation and heritage programs. The Commission operates a statewide historical preservation program that identifies and protects historic buildings, districts, structures, and archaeological sites. The Commission also develops and carries out programs to document and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Rhode Island's people.
