The Society owns and operates two historic sites. The 1885 Pottawattamie County Squirrel Cage Jail is one of 18 revolving ("squirrel cage," "human rotary," or "lazy Susan") jails built. The RailsWest History Center, housed in the 1899 Rock Island Depot, has displays of dining car silverware, a telegraph office, and memorabilia such as porters' uniforms and ticket stubs, as well as railcars and a model railroad.

The sites offer tours and exhibits; the society offers lectures and educational and recreational programs.

The Society operates a gallery for changing local history exhibits, as well as six historical sites throughout Long Island. These six sites are listed separately in the NHEC's Historical Site database.

AKCHO was incorporated in 1977 as a forum available to all who work in the world of heritage preservation, guided and nurtured by now experienced old hands. AKCHO aspires to foster cooperation between various historical and heritage organizations for mutual benefit, to establish and promote minimum standards for the aforementioned organizations, to promote public access to historical resources, and to promote public policy that is beneficial towards the preservation of King County history and heritage.

The site offers information about Association projects and advocacy, as well as resources for researchers and historical advocates.

The Mosholu Preservation Corporation was founded by Montefiore Medical Center in 1981 in order to help preserve the buildings in the surrounding neighborhood. The Corporation started as a buyer and renovator of old properties in the Norwood neighborhood, and now is a multi-directional force for preservation and pride in the Northwest Bronx.

The site provides general information about the history of the Corporation and its present projects.

The Society seeks to preserve, interpret, and educate the public on the history of Jamaica Plains and the local area.

The society offers tours and occasional lectures.

The Museum houses displays covering the 10,000 years of Nebraska's past, exploring the many peoples and cultures that have inhabited the land that now makes up the state.

The Eureka Heritage Society provides leadership, education, and advocacy to preserve and enhance Eureka's irreplaceable historic structures and neighborhoods so as to ensure a legacy for future generations. It maintains the Romano Gabriel Garden, fashioned from discarded crates and boards by Romano Gabriel, a carpenter turned sculptor. The garden has been "transplanted" and is now housed in a glass exhibit area for viewing.

The society offers occasional recreational and educational events; the garden is open to the public as a viewable exhibit.

The Society's Alverta Green Museum is home to many photographs, documents, and artifacts which represent the history of Mason.

The Society is housed in the Jonathan Bourne Historical Center, built in 1897 by Emily Howland Bourne as a town library and as a memorial to her father, Jonathan Bourne, for whom the town was named. The Society also manages the Aptucxet Trading Post and the Briggs-McDermott House. The Trading Post recreates the first trade house built in 1627, by Plymouth Colony, located on the south bank of the Manomet (Monument) River, which is now part of the Cape Cod Canal. The Pilgrims traded with the Indians and the Dutch from New Amsterdam (New York City), thus having a source of income by which their debt to the London backers of their expedition to the New World could be repaid. The Trading Post site also houses Gray Gables Railroad Station, built for the personal use of President Grover Cleveland during the years of his presidency (1893–1896). The Greek Revival-style Briggs-McDermott House has been restored and furnished to reflect the period from 1840 to 1910, an important time for the Briggs family and Bourne.

The society offers lectures and occasional recreational and educational events; the center offers tours, exhibits, and research library access; the Trading Post offers tours; the Briggs-McDermott House offers exhibits and tours.

The Blaine County Historical Museum serves as a place for participants to explore the Wood River Valley's past; research family histories; and view stored vignettes of mines, schools, agricultural contributions, transportation expansion, famous literary personalities, period fashions, western attire, and political memorabilia. Each display contributes to the historical perspective of life as early inhabitants and pioneers experienced it.
