The Texas Historical Commission is a state preservation assistance organization.

The commission website offers lesson plans on the French explorer known by the names René Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle, and Robert de LaSalle. LaSalle (1643-1687) explored the Great Lakes region, Gulf of Mexico, and Mississippi River, claiming the Mississippi basin for France.

There are no interpretive programs or functions offered beyond the Internet.

Oldfields - Lilly House & Gardens [IN]

Description

The Lily House & Gardens comprise a 26-acre estate. The 22-room mansion includes 8 period rooms, with approximately 90 percent of the home's original 1930s furnishings and decorative arts, and information on the American Country Place era (late 1800s-early1900s), the history of Oldfields, and 20th century Indianapolis. Collections include books, military miniatures, nautical items, and gold coins. The garden designs date to the 1920s.

The site offers guided and audio tours of the Lily House, guided garden tours, period rooms, and exhibits.

Concord Historical Society [CA]

Description

The Concord Historical Society works to preserve and showcase the history of Concord, California, and the surrounding area. While the society does not offer a museum, it does offer resources which will interest teachers and researchers alike.

The society offers guided tours of downtown Concord, periodic special events, and a collection of historic primary sources. The website offers an events calendar, visitor information for the downtown tours, and teaching resources which consist of sample lesson plans.

Description

The Forest History Society is a nationwide society dedicated to preserving the history of the great forests of the United States. The society puts on yearly lectures and conferences, and also hosts an impressive research center full of primary sources.

The society offers educators sample curriculum, a teacher guide, and an education newsletter. The website offers a history of the society, visitor information, online links to sample curriculum, and back issues of the educational newsletter.

New York Folklore Society [NY]

Description

The New York Folklore Society is focused on being the leading resource for showcasing and disseminating research and information regarding folk art and folklore throughout the state.

The society offers exhibits of folk art, guided tours of sites of interest throughout the state, and a variety of special events. The website offers an events calendar, a "what is folklore" section, and information about programs and services offered by the society.

Seems more a professional and umbrella organization than oriented towards K–12-applicable education.

Lafayette Square [MO]

Description

Lafayette Square is St. Louis's oldest historic district and was declared a National Historic District in 1979. The neighborhood surrounds a 30-acre Victorian park that is the oldest park west of the Mississippi River. The park serves as the hub for 375 Victorian homes of French Second Empire, Romanesque, Italianate, Queen Anne, and Federal designs. The Lafayette Square Restoration Committee has worked to restore over 90 percent of these homes to their original states.

The Committee sponsors several activities and programs throughout the year, including house and garden tours as well as a free concert series. The website offers historical information regarding the neighborhood, an events calendar, library access, and several photo galleries of the neighborhood.

Friends of Pioneer Cemetery [OR]

Description

Friends of Pioneer Cemetery was organized in 1985 to promote maintenance and restoration efforts within Salem’s historic Odd Fellows Rural Cemetery. Friends of Pioneer Cemetery also hosts periodic educational events for adults and children alike throughout the year.

The website offers a general history of the cemetery along with a small photo gallery, and an events calendar.

Seems to be more oriented towards preservation than school-age education.
