Visitors to this park can step into the past on the "Monterey Walking Path of History" and view the site where Spanish explorers first landed in Monterey in 1602; see one of the nation's last remaining whalebone sidewalks; and walk the same streets that author Robert Louis Stevenson walked in 1879 as they explore this two-mile path and discover some of California's most historic homes, buildings, and gardens along the way. Monterey served as California's capital under Spanish, Mexican, and U.S. military rule. The U.S. flag was first officially raised in California here on July 7, 1846, bringing 600,000 square miles of land to the United States. Ten buildings, including the Custom House, the oldest government building in California, and several residences (now house museums with guided tours), are all part of the Path of History.

The Bronx County Historical Society seeks to preserve and share the history of the Bronx, New York City. To this end, the society operates a research library, the county archives, the Poe Cottage, and a local history museum within the 1758 Valentine-Varian House. The 1812 Poe Cottage was Edgar Allan Poe's final home. He lived on site between 1846 and 1849. "Annabel Lee" was written during this time. Poe (1809-1849) is credited with creating the detective fiction genre, as well as being an early writer of American short stories. He is classified as a Romantic author; and his poetry, short stories, and novels lean toward the macabre. Famous works include "The Raven," "The Black Cat," "The Masque of the Red Death," "The Murders in the Rue Morgue," "The Tell-Tale Heart," and "Annabel Lee."

The society offers student tours and interactive activities in both historic homes, presentations for students, outreach programs for students, and neighborhood walking tours for students. The Poe Cottage offers period rooms, an introductory video, and guided tours. The Museum of Bronx History offers rotating exhibits. Both the archives and research library are open to the public by appointment. Payment of a fee is required for research assistance.

The New Baltimore Historical Society serves to preserve the history of the Anchor Bay area of Michigan. It maintains the Grand Pacific House Museum, formerly one of the town's best hotels, built in 1881.

The Society offers educational programming for children and adults. The Museum is open on Wednesday and Saturday to the public.

Master builder Isaiah Davenport built the Davenport House as his family residence in 1820. The home is designed in the Federal architectural style, and is open now as a historic house museum.

The Friendship Fire Company was established in 1774, and was the first volunteer fire company in Alexandria. The current firehouse was built in 1855, remodeled in 1871, and renovated in 1992. The Engine Room on the first floor houses hand-drawn fire engines, leather water buckets, axes, sections of early rubber hose, and other historic fire-fighting equipment. An exhibition discusses the development of firefighting technology and other fire companies that have served the citizens of Alexandria. The second floor Meeting Room is furnished the way it was during the late 19th century, the real heyday of Friendship as a community organization. On view here are various ceremonial objects such as parade uniforms, capes, banners, and other regalia. George Washington's association with the Friendship Fire Company, honored by members for over 200 years, is symbolized by several images of him throughout the museum.

The Fire Museum of Greater Chicago is dedicated to preserving the history of firefighting in the city of Chicago and its suburbs. The museum has been recently renovated and contains an impressive collection of firefighting memorabilia and equipment.

The Heritage Society of Austin is dedicated to preserving important historic structures in the greater Austin area. The society has worked over the years to preserve many of Austin's most important structures, and also aids local attractions such as the Pioneer Farms, a living history farm which showcases life in early Texas.

The Batavia Historical Society is dedicated to preserving the historical heritage of Batavia, IL, and chronicles the town's transformation from a frontier town in the Midwest to a thriving suburb of Chicago. The society owns and operates a local history museum, the Batavia Depot Museum, and a research center.

Dedicated as the Nebraska Statehood Memorial in 1968, the Kennard House is the oldest standing structure in Lincoln's original plat. At the 1869 Italianate home of Nebraska's first Secretary of State, Thomas P. Kennard, visitors will learn about the excitement of creating a new state capital, and see the formality of Victorian lifestyles. The oldest residence in Lincoln has been restored to the 1870s with tours available year round.

Jane Addams's Hull House was the most famous example of settlement houses popular during the American industrial revolution. The Hull House functioned as a center for the Chicago’s disadvantaged, offering community programs and other forms of community aid in poor, ethnic areas of Chicago.
