"Since 1994, the Nebraska Main Street program has made a difference in the lives of countless Nebraska residents by providing communities the opportunity to revitalize their traditional downtown commercial business districts through economic development and historic preservation." The main street program helps to revitalize downtown's across Nebraska by encouraging building restoration, raising community awareness, and providing resources and support to aid in the revitalization of downtown districts.

Texas Historical Foundation [TX]

Description

"The mission of the Texas Historical Foundation (THF) is to serve past, present, and future Texans by supporting research in and publication of Texas history, assisting in the preservation of historic and prehistoric artifacts and information,and raising and providing funds for these purposes in order to recognize and honor past generations and to enrich the awareness of and pride in Texas heritage for present and future generations." Description

The Court Hill Preservation Association is dedicated to preserving the past of the Court Hill district of Ottumwa, Iowa. The association achieves this goal primarily through the promotion of renovation projects. The Friends of Ohio Barns was formed in order to provide "opportunities for barn owners, barn lovers and the folks who believe in the stewardship of Ohio's barns to be connected." In addition, the organization works to help preserve barns and farmsteads throughout the state of Ohio. The organization releases a newsletter several times throughout the year and hosts a variety of events for farm owners and preservationists.

Anaconda Main Street Program [MT]

Description

The Anaconda Main Street program was founded in 2008 with a mission to "revitalize the downtown Anaconda business district with an emphasis on conserving, preserving and restoring Anaconda’s historic buildings and resources that reflect the community’s heritage, personality and values." Today, Anaconda is a popular resort destination in Southwest Montana.

Ventura County Museum of History & Art [CA]

Description

"The Museum of Ventura County promotes understanding of Ventura County’s history, art and culture through collections, exhibitions, publications, public programs and research." The museum first opened in 1913 and was known as the pioneer museum. The museum was known throughout the country for its interesting a varied collection of pioneer artifacts. The museum moved to its current location in 1973, and is now undergoing an extensive renovation. The museum currently holds an impressive range of collections, which chronicle Ventura County's history from ancient times to now.

Le Sueur County Historical Society and Museum [MN]

Description

The Society's Museum is housed in a two-story red brick structure designed by George Pass and built in 1895—one of the few remaining examples of late 19th-century schoolhouse architecture. The Museum interprets the history of Le Sueur County through a collection that includes a prehistoric bison skull, one-room school, general store, vintage toy displays, church artifacts, Victorian rooms, and Native American objects. An Art Room showcases area artisans and exhibits honoring the work of Adolf Dehn, Roger Preuss, and David Maass.

The museum offers exhibits and research library access.

Union Covered Bridge State Historic Site [MO]

Description

The Union Covered Bridge State Historic Site is located several miles from the historic Mark Twain State Park. The covered bridge was built in 1871, and is one of only four covered bridges that represent the Burr-arch truss design. It served travelers in Monroe County for 99 years, and still stands today as a symbol of a bygone era.

The location simply consists of the bridge and a small plaque explaining the history of the bridge. Visitors to the website can view basic visitor information, along with links to other Missouri State Parks and Historic Sites.

Prairie House Foundation [OK]

Description

"The Prairie House Foundation was incorporated on January 04, 2002 in Duncan, Oklahoma by a concerned citizen, Mrs. Jerry Pat (Gail) Loafman, after she purchased the W. T. Foreman house from the Duncan School System in an attempt to prevent its demise. Mrs. Loafman sold the house to the Prairie House Foundation on May 15, 2002." The foundation's main goal is to renovate and preserve the W.T. Foreman house, a historically and architecturally important structure. To this end, the foundation is currently working on raising funds needed for the renovation.

Calvin B. Taylor Museum [MD]

Description

The Calvin B. Taylor Museum is a historic house museum located in Berlin's National Register Historic District. The main block of the house has been converted into the present day museum, and the west wing is a gallery which displays local memorabilia. The home was originally built in 1832. The house was named for Calvin B. Taylor, who occupied the house between the early 1890s and 1932. Taylor was notable for founding the Calvin B. Taylor Banking Company. The museum serves to chronicle the daily life in Berlin, Maryland, during the course of the 19th century and early 20th century.
