At this workshop participants will engage in dynamic, in-depth, interdisciplinary study of the Alamo and associated major themes of American history, literature, and popular culture. They will study in intimate seminar settings with major scholars, interact with their colleagues in lively conversations, and develop classroom teaching activities based on individual interdisciplinary research conducted in the Alamo Library Archives, the Institute of Texans Cultures, the American History Center and other Texas archives while working in seminars with five nationally recognized Texas scholars.

The Historical Society of Cheshire County's Director of Education, Tom Haynes, will be available to work with any educator between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. who is seeking to use local history in their classroom.

Top-notch teachers will demonstrate how to teach local California community history—including geography of the local region, the culture of the Gabrielino Indians, the daily life and economic legacy of the local ranchos, the development of the harbor, local government, and the community. Participants will each receive instructional materials kit with model lessons, maps, primary source materials, and literature books.

This final session in the series features a talk from University of California, Davis historian Clarence Walker and lessons presented by three teachers.

Roman traditions appear in the history standards for several grades. Teacher-created lessons will provide participants with new angles on teaching Rome and the "classical liberal tradition" referenced by the U.S. history standards.
