First National Bank Museum

Description

The First National Bank is one of Columbia, Pennsylvania's oldest and most historic buildings. Founded in 1864, the First National Bank of Columbia moved into the building, which had been built in 1814 and had served as a residence and hotel up until that point. The building was converted into a museum in 1967. The museum is a faithful recreation of the bank in its original setting, and visitors can enjoy exploring the bank building as it looked in the late 19th century.

Constitution Island Association [NY]

Description

Constitution Island is part of West Point, the United States Military Academy, a National Registered Landmark. The Island is most famous for the Great Chain that was placed across the Hudson during the Revolutionary War and the Warner family who lived on the Island during the 19th century. The Warner House and ruins of the Revolutionary War fortifications are the primary points of interest.

The site offers tours and occasional recreational and educational events (including living history events).

National Capital Trolley Museum [MD]

Description

The National Capital Trolley Museum preserves and interprets the heritage of electric and interurban railways of Washington, D.C. and environs for the benefit of present and future generations, while supplementing its collections with significant national and international objects to enhance its interpretive programs.

The museum offers exhibits, street car rides, educational programs, and occasional recreational and educational events.

Old Barracks Museum [NJ]

Description

Built in 1758 by the Colony of New Jersey during the French and Indian War, the Old Barracks was a witness in 1776 to the Battle of Trenton, the turning point of the American Revolution. Today, the Old Barracks serves as an educational center for Colonial and American history, and stands as the last remaining structure of its kind. The Old Barracks staff provides daily tours and interpretations of American colonial life. The building offers a museum of artifacts and weapons.

Garretson Forge and Farm Restoration [NJ]

Description

One of the oldest sites in Bergen County, this pre-Revolutionary sandstone house is officially listed on the New Jersey State and United States National Register of Historic Places. A living Dutch farm museum, it sponsors activities involving restoration, preservation, historic digs, compilation of local history and folklore, educational programming, colonial agriculture, horticulture, and crafts.

The site offers tours and occasional recreational and educational events.

Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum [NY]

Description

The Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum is located within the Old Erie Canal State Historic Park in Central New York State. During the 19th and 20th centuries, 96-foot long cargo boats were built and repaired on this site. The Museum tells of the construction of these boats, the workings of the restored dry docks, and the social history of the canal area.

The museum offers exhibits, educational programs, and occasional recreational and historical events.

Mountain Top Historical Society [NY]

Description

The Society promotes the increase of knowledge and interest in that portion of the Catskill Mountains referred to generally as the "Mountain Top" through the study and preservation of its art, literature, history, culture, folklore, legends, and environment by means of a variety of programs, activities, and projects.

The society offers occasional recreational and educational events.

Norwood Historical Society and Morton Morton House [PA]

Description

The Society maintains the Morton Morton House, built around 1750 by Morton Morton (1701–1781) a great-grandson of Marten Martenson who settled in "New Sweden" in 1654. Morton Morton was first cousin to John Morton, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.

The society offers educational programs and occasional recreational and educational events; the house offers tours.
