In 1948, the Adirondack Historical Society was founded by two men who lived and vacationed in Blue Mountain Lake, located in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains. Five years later, they purchased the Blue Mountain House, which would play host to the Adirondack Museum. Now, the Adirondack Museum is "renowned for the breadth of its collections that include historic artifacts, photographs, archival materials, and fine art documenting the Adirondack region's past," and features 22 exhibit spaces and galleries. In addition, the museum features a research library, publications program, and an educational department that puts on a variety of special events.

The Mississippi Hills Heritage Area Alliance seeks to preserve, interpret, and promote the cultural and heritage assets of the Mississippi hills region. Its key objectives are to increase jobs and tourism in the region, and to develop and support projects and programs that sustain or improve the tourism in the region due to the heritage and history in the region.

The Art Deco Society of California (ADSC) is dedicated to honoring the aesthetic and architectural achievements of the first half of the 20th century, especially the decades of the 1920's, 30's and 40's that is now known as the Art Deco period. The ADSC was founded in 1981 by an architectural historian in the San Francisco Bay Area and is a member of the International Coalition of Art Deco Societies. The ADSC "endeavors to increase public awareness of the Art Deco era, to preserve and promote its art, architecture, music, fashions, transportation, and other forms of its popular culture." The ADSC researches and documents buildings and other artifacts worthy of preservation and also awards certificates of merit for noteworthy preservation and restoration efforts in California.

The State of Kentucky has an exceptional variety of historic sites, ranging from architectural sites and pioneer buildings to historic rail towns and American Indian villages. The Kentucky Heritage Council is entrusted with identifying, preserving, and protecting the historic resources of Kentucky. The council has spent the last 40 years assisting individuals and communities with making historic preservation an integral part of community planning and economic development. To this end, the Kentucky Heritage Council puts on a variety of educational events focusing on Kentucky history and also works to preserve historical structures and resources.

The Geneva Historical Society seeks to preserve and interpret the history of Geneva, New York and its denizens through its collections, educational programs, historic properties, and the Fund for Historic Geneva. The Geneva Historical Society Museum and offices are located in the Prouty-Chew House, which features marvelous period rooms, costume displays, and changing exhibits on Geneva's history and culture. The site also features a gift shop, staff offices, collections storage, programming space, and the Society's archives and library, which are open to researchers, genealogists, and the public.

The African American Museum of Nassau County opened in 1970 in order to to provide programming and events that help to satisfy the intellectual curiosity of community members with an interest in African American art, history, and culture. The museum is the only museum of African American history on Long Island and offers a series of rotating exhibits showcasing local and national African American artists. In addition, the museum houses the African Atlantic Genealogy Society, which provides workshops and individual research access and instruction in family genealogy.

In addition, the museum houses the American Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame.
