At the Society's headquarters, historical exhibits of local artifacts are presented on a rotating basis. They are open to members, the public, and school children during regular hours. A knowledgeable person lectures on the subject matter being displayed.

Visitors to the Independence Seaport Museum can view its galleries of exhibits; the Workshop on the Water, a wooden boatbuilding workshop inside the Museum; and the Spanish-American War cruiser USS Olympia and the World War II submarine USS Becuna.

The Society owns and maintains several historical sites, including the 1742 Square Tavern, the 1860 Bartram Bridge, and the Paper Mill House Museum. This building provided housing, beginning in the 1770s, for industrial workers who worked in the mills along Darby Creek. A large addition was added circa 1820. The older section was converted to a general store, circa 1845, to provide for the needs of the workers. Darby Creek runs through the property to the east of the building. The building, now owned by Newtown Township, has been restored to house permanent historical exhibits.

The Park memorializes the historic crossing of the Delaware by George Washington and his troops during the American Revolution, while preserving and presenting a number of historic structures, including the 18th-century McConkey's Ferry Inn, the 18th-century Thompson-Neely House, and a variety of early-19th-century homes and structures.

The Homestead is the home of the fictional Old Order Amish family of Daniel and Lizzie Fisher. Inside the Homestead, visitors learn of Amish traditions and practices, including Sunday church services held in the home. They tour the nine rooms on the first and second floors and learn up close how the Fisher family lives from day to day.

The homestead offers the "experiential theater" film Jacob's Choice and tours.

The Society operates the Collen Brook Farm, an 18th-century farmhouse, as a house museum.

Housed in the 1899 Victorian firehouse Reily Hose Company No. 10, the Museum displays a collection of artifacts ranging from hand-drawn equipment to modern tools.

JAHA museums include the Johnstown Flood Museum, the Frank & Sylvia Pasquerilla Heritage Discovery Center, and the Wagner-Ritter House & Garden; the Johnstown Children's Museum is currently under construction. In addition, JAHA produces the AmeriServ Johnstown FolkFest and a wide variety of special events. JAHA maintains an extensive archive of objects, photographs and documents that are significant to the history of Johnstown and the surrounding areas.

A walk through historic Greenwood Furnace evokes images of the community that flourished here from 1834 to 1904. Greenwood Furnace was a busy industrial complex, with all the noise and dirt of a 19th-century ironmaking community. Today, the park covers 423 acres, including a six-acre lake, and is surrounded by an 80,000-acre block of Rothrock State Forest. Interpretive programming at the park is centered on the former Greenwood Furnace and the company town that grew up around it.
