The Long Island Museum of American Art, History, and Carriages allows visitors the chance to learn about three unique subjects. Through recreated period rooms and permanent and traveling exhibits, visitors can explore Long Island history and its relation to natural history; in the art galleries, they can view pieces from the early 1800s to the present day; and, in the 10 carriage galleries, they can compare almost 100 carriages. Visitors may also walk through the grounds and the historic structures on-site, dating from the late 18th through the late 19th century.

The West Point Museum maintains the oldest and largest diversified public collection of miltaria in the Western Hemisphere. Its collections include nearly all aspects of military history and encompass the history of West Point and the United States Military Academy, the evolution of warfare, and the development of the American Armed Forces.

Strong National Museum of Play houses the National Toy Hall of Fame, the National Center for the History of Electronic Games, and the world's largest collection of toys, dolls, games, and other items that celebrate play. Visitors may explore both interactive exhibits designed for children and display exhibits preserving and presenting the history of play. History-relevant exhibits for children include One History Place and TimeLab, which explore U.S. history and pop culture history, respectively.

The museum offers exhibits and a range of educational programs, including standards-based tours for student groups and orientation programs for educators.

The Shaker Museum interprets Shaker life and culture and exhibits artifacts from Shaker history, including Shaker furniture, oval boxes, textiles, craft machinery, art, tools, and agricultural machinery. The Shaker Library holds archival materials including books and historic pictures.

The museum offers exhibits; the research library offers library access, by appointment only.

NOTE: The museum and library are currently closed while the institution relocates to a new site at historic Mount Lebanon.

The Museum advances the public understanding and appreciation of the art, history, technique, and technology of film, television, and digital media. It does so by collecting, preserving, and providing access to moving-image related artifacts; screening significant films and other moving-image works; presenting exhibitions of artifacts, artworks, and interactive experiences; and offering educational and interpretive programs to students, teachers, and the general public.

Rock Hall is an exceptional example of 18th-century high-style architecture. Built for Loyalist Josiah Martin in 1767, Georgian/Federal interiors and furnishings evoke the lifestyle of a wealthy merchant.

The 18th-century Sherwood-Jayne house is located in a bucolic setting with sheep grazing in the adjoining pasture. Hand-painted floral wall frescoes imitating expensive wallpaper decorate the east parlor. The property has retained its 19th-century agrarian context—hayfields, meadows, woodlot, and orchard.

Sag Harbor became a United States port of entry in 1789, with a growing population involved in servicing whalers, coasters, and West Indian trade ships. The Custom House was owned by Sag Harbor's first United States Custom Master, Henry Packer Dering. The daily activities of Dering, his wife, and nine children are vividly portrayed in the room settings of a formal dinner, office, children's room, kitchen, pantry, and laundry.
