San Joaquin Historical Society and Museum [CA]

Description

The Museum reveals the history of the San Joaquin region, from the Yokuts and Miwok through Captain Charles Weber (founder of Stockton and first farmer in the area) and the development of modern agriculture. The Museum has eight exhibition buildings, four historic buildings—including the Charles Weber cottage (1847) and Calaveras School (1866)—and features room dioramas of Weber family furnishings, a children's gallery, and large displays of hand tools and agricultural equipment.

The museum offers exhibits, research library access, educational programs, and occasional recreational and educational events (including living history events).

Crawford County Historical Society and Baldwin Reynolds House Museum [Pennsylvania]

Description

The Society operates the Baldwin Reynolds House Museum. Built in 1843 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the house now displays artifacts from the Baldwin and Reynolds families, as well as other Crawford-area families; 23 rooms are on display, some outfitted to reflect their original use and others used for historical displays.

The society offers research library access and educational and recreational events; the museum offers exhibits and tours.

San Mateo County History Museum [CA]

Description

Housed in the old San Mateo County Courthouse, the Museum is preserves the history of the county and makes it accessible to the public. It hosts exhibits detailing the history and development of the county.

Sherburne History Center

Description

The Center showcases the semipermanent exhibit "Life on the Edge," featuring the history of Sherburne County, as well as rotating exhibits; the outdoors Legacy Trail leads past local historic structures.

Franklin County Historical Society – Kittochtinny [Pennsylvania]

Description

The "Old Jail" at 175 East King Street in Chambersburg, PA, is home to the Society. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970, the Old Jail also houses a museum and genealogical library. The Society also owns and maintains the Brown's Mill School (a primary school in use from 1836–1921).

The society offers research library access, tours, and lectures; the museum offers exhibits and tours; the school offers access.

Milwaukee County Historical Society, Center, and Historic Sites [WI]

Description

The Society operates the Historical Center, in the 1913 Second Ward Savings Bank building, as well as several historical sites, including Trimborn Farm, Jeremiah Curtin House, Lowell Damon House, and Kilbourntown House. Trimborn farm lets visitors take a giant step back into pioneer times. They can delve into Victorian-era industry, reminisce about 19th-century farm life, and witness Wisconsin culture come to life as embodied by the immigrant entrepreneur Werner Trimborn, his family, and his employees. With help from a stone mason, Irish immigrant David Curtin built the first-of-its-kind stone Jeremiah Curtin House in the Old Town of Greenfield in 1846. Started in 1844 by Oliver Damon and completed in 1847 by his son Lowell, the Lowell Damon House is Wauwatosa's oldest residence and stands as a classic example of a colonial home. Built in 1844 by Benjamin Church, Kilbourntown House was originally located in the area of Milwaukee known as Kilbourntown. This building was moved to Estabrook Park in 1938 and serves as a fine example of Greek Revival architecture.

DeKalb History Center [GA]

Description

The DeKalb History Center preserves and presents the history of DeKalb County, Georgia. The Center is composed of three distinct organizations, the McCurdy Family Research Center, which preserves the genealogical history of DeKalb County; the Jim Cherry Museum, a local history museum; and the society itself.

The Jim Cherry Museum features four permanent exhibits: DeKalb: The First Hundred Years, Johnny Reb and Billy Yank: The Life of the Common Soldier, DeKalb at War, and DeKalb Then and Now. The museum also offers guided tours and periodic events. The McCurdy Family Research Center offers genealogical research materials and services. The website offers visitor information, an online research section, and a history of DeKalb County.

Clallam County Historical Society and Museum at the Carnegie [WA]

Description

The Museum at the Carnegie offers a glimpse of life from Clallam County's past. The exhibit "Strong People: Faces of Clallam County" introduces visitors to people who helped build the community. Visitors will learn about early settlers in "Charting the Last Frontier"; hear three distinct tribal languages in "Our Ancestral Heritage"; explore the arts in "Body, Mind, and Spirit"; examine the issues behind the creation of Olympic National Park in "This Land is Your Land"; learn about timber and agriculture in "Home Grown"; find out about the towns that cover our county from east to west in "Creating Communities"; and discover our maritime history in "Our Strategic Coastline."
