Presentations at this symposium include "The Emancipation Proclamation as a War Measure," "Current Lincoln Scholarship," "Lincoln Records in the National Archives," "Lincoln and the Copperhead Movement in Illinois," and living history reenactors throughout the day.

This symposium, presented by the James Buchanan Foundation and the Lancaster County Historical Society will examine the political crisis of the 1850s and the presidency of James Buchanan. The symposium includes a keynote event and three panel presentations, as well as an in-service program for secondary teachers.

This institute will "examine the Anglo-American relationship through the life, reflections, and experiences of Winston Churchill. The Institute encompasses lectures, discussions, and participants' personal responses to readings and films; projects using primary documents from the Churchill Archives Centre; and visits to Churchill sites in Britain. "

Abraham Lincoln will stand at the centre of the seminar, though less as a biographical subject than as a prism for exploring key aspects of his age. The themes and topics to be addressed include slavery and the Old South; the abolitionist impulse and the broadening antislavery movement; party political realignment and the sectional crisis of the 1850s; evangelicalism and politics; the election of 1860, the secession of the Lower South, and the coming of war; wartime leadership, political and military; the Civil War 'home front'; emancipation; the elements of Confederate defeat and Union victory; and the meaning of the war for American nationalism.

This course consists of sessions and lectures by Monticello professional staff members, exploring all aspects of Thomas Jefferson's life, accomplishments, and character. (This is a several-month-long series of lectures, not a live-in intensive course.)

This seminar will "focus on Virginia's political leadership and cultural life in the era of the American Revolution. Participants will gain an understanding of the unique events and dynamics that prevailed in mid-to-late 18th-century Virginia and will be given the tools to incorporate this newfound knowledge directly into their classrooms in order to enrich students' educational experiences."
