Blackwells Mills Canal House [NJ]

Description

The Blackwells Mills Canal House was built circa 1835 as a home for the men and women who operated the swinging bridges over the canal. In the 1970s, the last owner of the home died and the canal was declared a National Historic Site. Now, the house is a historic house museum, and visitors to the home can view how bridge operators lived in the 1800s as well as view artifacts and historical information about the Blackwells Mills Canal.

California Foundry History Museum [CA]

Description

"Established in 1997, the California Foundry History Institute (CFHI) is a non-profit educational organization incorporated in the state of California and dedicated to the collection and preservation of historical records pertaining to the history of the foundry industry in California." The institute owns and operates two museums in the greater Sacramento area. Both museums offer impressive collections pertaining to California history and the history of the California foundry industry.

The site offers visitor information, a five minute long introductory movie, and a listing of all resources in the institute's archives.

Livermore Heritage Guild and Museums [CA]

Description

"The goal of the Livermore Heritage Guild is expressed by its motto, 'Help save yesterday for tomorrow.' The Guild is an information source for those who are interested in the history of Livermore and houses its collection in the historic Carnegie Library Building in downtown Livermore." The guild also runs the Duarte Garage Museum, a 1915 automotive garage, and the 1911 Carnegie Museum, originally built as a public library and now serving as the guild's headquarters.

The site features a slideshow of downtown Livermore, an events calendar, recent news, and an online museum store.

Chapman Historical Museum [NY]

Description

The Chapman Historical Museum is "located near downtown Glens Falls, a small city at the southeastern edge of the Adirondack Mountains, an hour north of Albany, New York. Today the museum consists of the restored Victorian home of the DeLong family, a changing exhibition gallery, research archive and gift shop." The museum also provides a wealth of educational programs tailored for children of different ages and is working on a Glens Falls historical site.

Park City Historical Society and Museum [UT]

Description

The Park City Historic Society & Museum is dedicated to preserving and presenting the history of Park City, UT. Today, Park City is most widely known for its unparalleled winter sports attractions; but Park City also has a deep and intriguing history, represented in exhibits, from early silver mining and western-bound stagecoaches to hosting a territorial jail.

The museum offers exhibits. The site offers an events calendar, historical features, visitor information, and in-depth information regarding current exhibits.

The museum is currently closed for restoration.

Tampa Bay History Center [FL]

Description

The Tampa Bay History Center is located in the center of historic Tampa, FL, in a beautiful new building which contains 60,000 square feet of exhibits space. The building hosts numerous exhibits which depict almost 500 years of recorded history and 12,000 years of human habitation in this region of Florida. The center also hosts a research center which contains 9,638 books, manuscripts, microfilm, legal documents. In addition, the research center hosts over 1,000 genealogical resources.

The site offers visitor information, a listing of all current, past, and present exhibits, information regarding the other historical resources owned by the center, an education section complete with lesson plans, field trip guides, and interactive online educational activities, a museum store, and an events calendar.

Hanover Junction Train Station [PA]

Description

The Hanover Junction Train Station is located in the heart of the Heritage Rail Trail County Park. The park follows a historic railroad track and is open to the public during daylight hours throughout the year. Now, the Train Station houses a new museum located on the first floor. The museum holds artifacts chronicling local history and the history of the railroad.

Franklin County Historical Association and Museums [Texas]

Description

The Society maintains two historical museums. The Majors-Parchman House Museum, a restored 1883 Victorian cottage, retains its original outbuildings and displays an extensive artwork collection. The Franklin County Historical Museum, located in Mount Vernon's Old City Hall, presents exhibits on area history with additional natural history exhibits.

The museums offer exhibits and tours.

Forest County Historical Society and History Center [Pennsylvania]

Description

The Society operates out of the George W. and Martha Bonner Robinson home, built on Elm Street in Tionesta in 1872. Housed in its several levels are displays of printing press, cobbler, blacksmith, butcher, and general farming and domestic tools. War relics and Indian arrowheads, historical paintings, and quilts from the County are also on display. A library of historical books, photographs, pamphlets, and documents is also housed here.

The center offers exhibits, research library access, and occasional recreational and educational events.

Camp Hancock State Historic Site and Museum [ND]

Description

This site preserves part of a military installation established as Camp Greeley in 1872 to provide protection for work gangs then building the Northern Pacific Railroad. The camp's name was changed to Camp Hancock in 1873. A log headquarters building still stands on the site; it has been enlarged and remodeled several times, and the logs have been concealed by clapboard siding. The building serves as an interpretive museum for artifacts and information about local history.
