The main Museum showcases exhibits on local natural and cultural history. The Hackley and Hume Historic Site preserves the homes of Muskegon's most famous lumber baron, Charles H. Hackley, and his business partner, Thomas Hume. The site envelops the visitor in a unique living space, bringing late 19th-century craftsmanship to life. The Fire Barn Museum serves as a living memorial to the brave men and women who have served as Muskegon County firefighters and exhibits firefighting equipment. The Scolnik House recreates the lifestyle of a Depression-era family.

One of the museum's first donated pieces was the famous Squad 51 from the hit television show Emergency! Since then, the collection has grown from a dozen or so antique fire engines to more than 40 dating back to the 1860s. Additionally, uniforms, badges, helmets, photographs, and many other artifacts are being resurrected and preserved as lucent examples of the County fire service.

The Museum displays a horse-drawn steam pumper from the late 1800s and a 1929 Ahrens-Fox fire engine. A memorial dedicated to those who died in the line of duty features the names of the department's fallen heroes. Another section pays tribute to the city's finest, naming past and present firefighters.

For almost 160 years, this site has been the home of local government and a place of civic pride and celebration. The County Board of Supervisors caused the construction of the now-historic courthouse in 1926, after the smaller Greek-Revival courthouse was damaged in an earthquake the previous year. Visitors from around the world come to see the courthouse, mural room, and grounds.

The Foundation is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is preserving, protecting, and enhancing the special historic character of Salisbury and Rowan County through education, neighborhood revitalization, advocacy, and the preservation of historic landmarks. It also maintains and operates the Josephus W. Hall House, the Salisbury Station and the Grimes Mill. The 1820 Hall House contains the silver, china, and furniture of the Hall family, which owned the house beginning in 1859; the 1908 Salisbury Station has been restored and is tourable by appointment; and the 1896 Victorian roller mill, Grimes Mill, contains five floors of early mill machinery, and is tourable by appointment.
