Ulysses S. Grant was born 27 April 1822 in picturesque Point Pleasant near the mouth of Big Indian Creek at the Ohio River. This restored one-story, three-room cottage, which was built in 1817, was next to the tannery where Grant's father worked. The small cottage is furnished with period items. At one time the birthplace made an extensive tour of the United States on a railroad flatcar and was also temporarily displayed on the Ohio State fairgrounds.

"For many years, Franklin D. Roosevelt summered on Campobello Island. As an adult, he shared with his family the same active pursuits he enjoyed on the island as child. Although he visited less frequently after contracting polio, Campobello remained important to FDR. Today, Roosevelt Campobello International Park serves as a memorial to FDR and a symbol of cooperation between the U.S. and Canada." Visitors to Campobello Island can enjoy viewing the restored FDR-era buildings as well as learn more about the Roosevelt presidency and family.

In 1860, Abraham Lincoln left his home of 17 years in order to assume to office of President, where he served until his assassination in 1865. The Lincoln Home has been restored to its 1860 state, and shows a different side of Abraham Lincoln to visitors. In the home, visitors can see Lincoln as a husband, father, and politician.

The site offers visitor information, a lesson plan for teachers, a museum shop, and brief historical information about both the historic Lincoln Home and Abraham Lincoln himself. In order to email the park, use the "contact us" link on the webpage.

The Edison National Historic Site consists of the home and laboratory of Thomas Edison, preserved as they were during the late 1800s.

The home offers tours, artifacts, and exhibits that showcase Edison's life and career.; it also offers videos for loan to educators. The website offers a biography of Edison, a history of the home, original phonograph recordings, visitor information, and a calendar of events.

The Ulysses S Grant National Historic Site commemorates the lives of Ulysses S Grant (1822-1885), general-in-chief of the Union army and 18th President of the United States, and his wife Julia Dent. Dent's family home, White Haven, is the centerpiece of the park. Other structures include an interpretive museum housed in the historic Grant stable and a visitors' center.

The site offers a 16-minute introductory film, guided tours of White Haven, Junior Ranger activities, and a history reading program compliant with state educational standards.

Visit the house where George Washington, first President of the US and commander of the Continental Army, was born and spent his early years. The house burned in 1779 although its foundation survived. The home was rebuilt in the 1930's and now contains pieces from the Colonial era.

The site offers tours for school group as well as Virginia SOL-based educational programs (grades K-7). In addition to history education programs the site also offers environmental education programs on grounds. Outreach programs can be arranged during the winter months. Curriculum materials can be downloaded free of charge for teachers to use both before and after their visit.

"Chaco Culture National Historical Park preserves one of America's most significant and fascinating cultural and historic areas. Chaco Canyon was a major center of ancestral Puebloan culture between AD 850 and 1250. It was a hub of ceremony, trade, and administration for the prehistoric Four Corners area - unlike anything before or since."

Self-guided hikes and bus/car tours are available. Group camping is also an option for school groups. Curriculum materials can be downloaded and are suggested for use before your visit.
